august 2026 In a couple Hiking in Java, Bali and Nusa Penida
Translated from French
It adds up to a lot of driving every day, barely any time to stop before we're off again. It has its advantages and disadvantages, but the traffic makes it complicated… It was still a wonderful trip, well-organized with a private driver, and that's priceless, especially in Bali. We had full days on the climbs with incredible times… However, you need to review your departure times. For Mount Ijen, you have to leave at 3 a.m., and we were already made to leave 39 minutes earlier than scheduled—thankfully, otherwise we wouldn't have seen anything! So, 3 hours on Mount Ijen and 4 hours on Mount Batur because we waited more than 30 minutes in the cold up there! All that just so they could sell us their blankets! Anyway, these are minor details, but we didn't see the blue flames on Mount Ijen. Nevertheless, an extraordinary trip, we were blown away by the sights, thank you!

It's important to know that trips sold by Decathlon Travel are booked through Atalante. Therefore, some information that other travelers received directly from the tour operator hadn't reached me.

Why choose Java for your sports holidays?

Tropical warmth, a fascinating culture , and natural treasures form the backdrop of Java. The island is gradually establishing itself as a must-see destination for anyone dreaming of an organized tour focused on activity and personal growth. Over the years, it has even rivaled Bali in attracting travelers seeking unique adventures and extraordinary discoveries.

Java's greatest asset lies in its diverse landscapes . Multi-activity enthusiasts will find an unparalleled playground, while hiking aficionados can enjoy trails far from the crowded tourist routes.

The must-do sports and activities on Java

The call of the volcanoes: trekking and dizzying climbs

Reaching the summit of Mount Bromo or Kawah Ijen is a dream for adventurers. Climbing these iconic volcanoes remains a highlight of any sporting trip to Java . Walking along the Bromo ridge at dawn, a lunar landscape unfolds beneath the mist, while the effort to reach the acidic lake of Kawah Ijen is rewarded by the surreal beauty of its turquoise waters.

Those who prefer to venture off the beaten path also explore Mount Merapi , whose majestic cone overlooks the surrounding plantations. These accessible challenges allow both experienced hikers and accompanied beginners to experience the intense adventure of an ascent to high altitude , in safe conditions thanks to the guidance offered by local organized tours .

Hiking and immersion in the Javanese jungle

Beyond the volcanoes, Java offers a pristine haven for hiking enthusiasts . Through national parks like Gunung Halimun Salak, you can follow unexpected routes that intertwine with suspension bridges, traditional villages, and panoramic viewpoints overlooking the rainforest canopy. Multi-activity tours often combine this immersive experience with mountain biking, rafting on rushing rivers, or a few days of trekking near Ujung Kulon, at the westernmost tip of the island.

Each stop offers an opportunity to discover local life: exploring bustling markets, savoring freshly prepared spicy cuisine , or simply sharing a cup of tea along a scenic route. This style of active holiday in Java forges an authentic connection with the island's soul, while offering a wealth of new experiences each day.

Organized tours for all styles

From small-group trekking trips to active holidays combining yoga, relaxation, and urban exploration, everyone can set their own pace. Organized tours prioritize respect for nature and local communities. They also encourage encounters with other curious minds from around the world, who come together to embark on a new adventure.

Many packages are offered in multi-day modules. They begin with the spectacular ascent of Mount Bromo , followed by hikes through rice paddies, exploration of forgotten temples, or relaxation on a volcanic beach. Some itineraries even include a visit to Bali to extend the Indonesian magic after conquering Java.

  1. Guided trekking on the main volcanoes
  2. Multi-activities including kayaking, mountain biking and yoga
  3. Cultural encounters and visits to the temples of Borobudur and Prambanan
  4. Exploring little-known natural sites away from the crowds
  5. Family or solo stays, comfortable accommodations or nights with locals
