august 2026 In a couple Hiking in Java, Bali and Nusa Penida
Translated from French
It adds up to a lot of driving every day, barely any time to stop before we're off again. It has its advantages and disadvantages, but the traffic makes it complicated… It was still a wonderful trip, well-organized with a private driver, and that's priceless, especially in Bali. We had full days on the climbs with incredible times… However, you need to review your departure times. For Mount Ijen, you have to leave at 3 a.m., and we were already made to leave 39 minutes earlier than scheduled—thankfully, otherwise we wouldn't have seen anything! So, 3 hours on Mount Ijen and 4 hours on Mount Batur because we waited more than 30 minutes in the cold up there! All that just so they could sell us their blankets! Anyway, these are minor details, but we didn't see the blue flames on Mount Ijen. Nevertheless, an extraordinary trip, we were blown away by the sights, thank you!

july 2026 Alone Surf and yoga initiation: 8 days all-inclusive in Bali
Translated from French
I highly recommend this trip to anyone wanting to improve their surfing! The instructors know how to build confidence in the water. The additional sessions of surf theory, video analysis, and pool practice for learning the turtle roll are very helpful. The hotel is clean and the atmosphere is welcoming.

Indonesia: Where to go?

Explore the region's hidden gems

Indonesia is unlike any other destination. An archipelago that stretches, multiplies, and surprises at every turn. Imagine towering volcanoes , vibrant jungles , colorful underwater worlds – and a vast playground for all your adventurous sporting desires. Across its contrasting islands, embark on an active holiday in Indonesia where experiences abound: hiking along volcanic ridges , diving with giant rays, or exploring wild rivers. This sporty vacation is much more than just an escape; it becomes a living memory, an opportunity to push your limits and discover a fascinating world.

Sports trip to Indonesia: a world of adventure at your fingertips

From tropical northern Sumatra to the golden beaches of Bali , each island offers its own array of activities. A sports trip here means experiencing the incredible diversity that makes Indonesia a paradise for active sports enthusiasts . Whether you're passionate about trekking or a thrill-seeker, anything is possible, at the pace of the country and under the welcoming gaze of its people.

Forget the routine. Here, every day becomes a new challenge, every landscape reveals new colors. The warm climate facilitates outdoor activities, while the variety of terrain always promises something different: primary forest , raw savannah, steep volcanic slopes or shores fringed by the Indian Ocean.

Indonesia is known for its spectacular landscapes. But it also attracts a growing community of travelers seeking sports , nature, and adventure. The archipelago offers the opportunity to try a multitude of activities: mountain biking in the Balinese hills , rafting in the deep valleys of Java , or climbing mythical volcanoes . The vast distances between the islands even lend themselves to planning a multi-activity itinerary, combining hiking, cultural exploration, and water sports.

Traveling this way connects you to the true identity of the country. Between unusual encounters , moments shared during a group trek, and discoveries of villages harboring age-old local traditions, you will feel all the warmth and uniqueness of Indonesia.

Essentials for a sports holiday in Indonesia

Bali offers trails for hiking and mountain biking , with gentle or challenging climbs to suit your preference. Java impresses with its chain of volcanoes : Bromo, Ijen, and Semeru await your steps for unforgettable morning ascents bathed in the pink light of sunrise.

For those seeking respite from the heat, Lombok offers canyoning in its hidden gorges, amidst waterfalls and natural pools. Unique spots, far from the crowds, also provide opportunities to learn or improve your whitewater rafting skills.

Top activities and destinations for a successful sports trip

The unique appeal of a sports holiday in Indonesia lies in its natural diversity , and therefore in the range of experiences available to all levels. Here are a few activity ideas to add rhythm to your next sports vacation .

Whether you have little or a lot of time, there is always a suitable option: half-day hiking trips, multi-day treks, water sports or tailor-made programs where you alternate between cycling , volcanoes, rivers and the sea.

  1. Hiking and trekking : Trails on the ridges of volcanoes (Semeru, Rinjani) or immersion in the orangutan forests of Borneo.
  2. Volcano climbing : An unmissable experience, especially at Mount Batur (Bali) or Gunung Agung for seasoned adventurers.
  3. Diving & snorkeling : Explore Raja Ampat , Komodo or Amed, renowned for their coral reefs and exceptional wildlife.
  4. Canyoning & rafting : Guaranteed freshness in the canyons of Lombok or during intense descents near Ubud.
  5. Mountain biking / cycling : Scenic circuits around Ubud or more technical routes on volcanic terrain.

Multi-activities: the joy of varying the pleasures

Letting yourself be guided by a mix of trekking , canoeing, diving sessions, and a few bike rides is undoubtedly the best way to explore the country's endless resources. This diverse range of activities brings you closer to both nature and people, encourages encounters, and reveals unspoiled landscapes far from the tourist crowds.

Many organized holidays now offer these " multi-activity " packages, ideal for those seeking variety without sacrificing intensity or enjoyment. In the evening, relaxation unfolds around a convivial table or in a bungalow opening onto the jungle, allowing you to fully savor every moment.

Experiencing culture in a different way, through sport

Each region of Indonesia has its own unique relationship with sport and nature: surfing in Sumatra, yoga near Bali, spiritual treks to the remote temples of Central Java. Immersing yourself in this local dynamic significantly enriches your sports trip , revealing an authentic side of the country.

Moreover, participating in an expedition led by local guides enhances the experience: they readily share anecdotes, stories, and cultural insights that will enrich each stage of your journey. The human element then takes on its full meaning, extending the magic of the trip long after your return.

Frequently asked questions about sports travel in Indonesia

What are the best times to go on a sports trip to Indonesia?

The dry season , generally from April to October, remains the most pleasant time for hiking , trekking , or cycling. You'll enjoy stable weather, essential for considering volcano climbs or diving . However, some regions, such as Sumatra or Sulawesi, have specific climatic conditions that should be taken into account depending on the areas visited.

  1. Dry season (April-October): ideal for most land and sea activities
  2. Wet season (November-March): it's best to opt for short or specific hikes

What equipment should I bring for a sports holiday in Indonesia?

Lightweight yet robust equipment will allow you to meet any challenge. Opt for breathable clothing , shoes suitable for hiking or mountain biking, a personal water bottle, and an ergonomic backpack. For water activities, a mask and snorkel, appropriate footwear, and UV protection are ideal additions.

  1. Hiking boots or sturdy sandals
  2. Swimsuit for single use or diving/snorkeling
  3. Poncho or light windbreaker for cool mornings at altitude

Is it necessary to book sports activities in advance?

Booking in advance not only guarantees a spot on the most popular sporting excursions , but also ensures a smooth trip. This is especially true for climbing famous volcanoes , diving in Raja Ampat , or guided multi-activity tours. Some very popular sites intentionally restrict access to protect the environment.

  1. Improved time management and internal transfers
  2. Increased safety with qualified supervision
  3. Optimized choice of spots or activities
