Starting from Bagnères-de-Luchon, we set off for a great day in the mountains on the full Venasque Trail course and the first part of the Ultra LAT. This 45km stage with 2800m of elevation gain takes us towards the border passes of Port de l'Escalette and then Port de Venasque, in a spectacular high mountain setting.
Throughout the day, we will work on essential points for improving in long-distance trail running: pace management uphill, energy conservation, use of poles, positioning downhill, terrain reading, and race nutrition strategy . The varied terrain of the course will allow us to put these tips into practice immediately.
Depending on the time of year, snow may still remain below the Venasque pass. This is an excellent opportunity to learn techniques for moving on snowfields , foot placement, balance management, and proper safety practices in mountain terrain.
You'll ride through the heart of magnificent Pyrenean landscapes, on rolling trails, rocky sections, and long, technical descents down to the valley. An ideal immersion to gain experience on demanding terrain.
Back in Luchon, a rest period is planned with refreshments, followed by an educational session on nutrition, endurance physiology, and recovery . A friendly evening, dinner, and overnight stay in a gîte.
