The highlights of your route will be following the Rhône River, cycling through the Geneva countryside and its vineyards before crossing the Franco-Swiss border after the village of Chancy. You will have a view of the remarkable Fort l'Ecluse, an elevated fort built on a rocky outcrop, the natural gateway to the Rhône Valley in France between the Vuache hills and the Jura mountains.

Your home for the night is in Seyssel, a small town on the banks of the Rhône which has the distinction of being on two departments (in Haute-Savoie and in Ain) shared by the Rhône.

The views of the Bauges mountain range peaks on one side, and Mont de la Charvaz and Col du Chat on the other, are some of the main highlights of this stage. Steep cliffs seem to magically rise from the water, and the mountains surround you in protective tranquility. After the village of Chanaz, you will reach Lake Bourget, the largest and deepest natural lake of glacial origin in France (it was once home to the bezoule, a now-extinct freshwater fish that fed in muddy depths of 70 to 80 meters and is believed to have disappeared in the 1960s). Following the shores of this magnificent lake, you will arrive in the spa town of Aix-les-Bains, which was renowned for its baths as early as the Roman Empire.

Today, you'll cycle through the heart of Savoy to Chambéry, a city of art and history. Located in a wide valley between the Bauges and Chartreuse mountains, at the crossroads of ancient trade routes, Chambéry's old town is one of the most remarkable in France. Along the way, admire the ruins of the 10th-century fortress, Château de Miolans, which overlooks the rich wine-growing region of the Combe de Savoie (including the village of Chignin, with the remains of the 8th-century Saracen fortress and its six towers). The Isère River will then guide you to your destination at the foot of the Bauges mountains, Sainte-Hélène-sur-Isère.

You'll first cycle towards Albertville, located on the Arly River, near its confluence with the Isère. Ideally situated for a coffee break, Albertville, host city of the 1992 Winter Olympics, includes within its boundaries the medieval town of Conflans, whose buildings date back to the 14th century. On the way to Annecy, with magnificent views of the Beaufortain and Bauges mountains, you'll cycle along a secondary road, then onto a former railway line converted into a greenway that will take you to Lake Annecy, bordered by the Aravis mountain range… a few more pedal strokes, and you'll arrive in the beautiful city of Annecy, the Venice of the Alps. Take the time to stroll around, whether to wander or to visit its most illustrious sites: the Palais de l'Isle, symbol of the city, the Château d'Annecy, or the Saint-Pierre Cathedral… and then there is the Pont des Amours… but even before you get there, you will have already succumbed to the charms of Annecy… leaving it will be difficult!
