    Levels

    Mountaineering

    Beginner
Mountaineering is a demanding sport; consequently, there is no "beginner" physical level for it. If you have never mountaineered before, you can aim for an intermediate or advanced level.
    Intermediate
For fit hikers who wish to experience the high mountains. No specific mountaineering skills are required; the crampon work is straightforward. Guides are on hand to provide instruction and ensure your safety. The daily elevation gain generally ranges from 700 to a maximum of 1,000 meters.
    Confirmed
For those who engage in endurance or mountain sports (running, cycling, trail running, rock climbing, trekking, etc.) three or more times a week. You are capable of hiking for long hours in the mountains and ascending around 1,500 meters in a single day. Ideally, you have some prior high-altitude experience (such as walking in crampons), though this is not essential if you are in excellent physical condition. To aid acclimatization, it is recommended to go mountain hiking in the days leading up to the trip.
    Advanced
For those who regularly practice endurance or mountain sports (running, cycling, trail running, rock climbing, trekking, etc.)—at least four times a week. You are capable of hiking for over eight hours in the mountains and ascending between 1,500 and 2,000 vertical meters in a single day. You have mastered crampon techniques. Prior mountaineering experience (ascents or ice training) is mandatory.
    Expert
For those in excellent physical condition who regularly engage in mountain activities (rock climbing, mountaineering, ice climbing, etc.): you have mastered mountaineering techniques and are capable of undertaking climbs rated D or higher.

You'll discover the Valsavarenche Valley in Gran Paradiso National Park by exploring the via ferrata located near the hamlet of Degioz . You'll learn how to handle ropes and navigate a via ferrata, excellent preparation for feeling comfortable on the rocky section at 4,000 meters altitude at the summit of Gran Paradiso the following day. After enjoying a meal at the summit, we'll descend to the start of the trail leading to the Chabod Refuge , just a 10-minute drive from Degioz . The ascent, about two hours on foot along a pleasant path, allows us to arrive at the refuge early enough to collect our crampons and ice axes.

With your guide, you'll learn how to adjust your crampons so everything is ready for the next day. We'll go to bed early, as we'll be up early, and your guide will let you know the schedule based on the weather and the group's fitness level. The program is a guideline and may be adjusted depending on weather conditions or the participants' physical condition. The guide may also suggest alternatives, such as an introductory day on ice climbing or climbing another peak in the area.

Via Bourg-Saint-Maurice - Little St. Bernard Pass : You can reach Bourg-Saint-Maurice by train from most French airports. This route is slightly longer, but you'll save on the Mont Blanc Tunnel toll.

Via Chamonix Mont-Blanc : Take the train from major French airports or Geneva Airport to Chamonix, then head towards Courmayeur, Aosta Valley , via the Mont Blanc Tunnel. Bus connections exist between Chamonix and the Aosta Valley, but for greater freedom, renting a car is recommended. Important : Upon exiting the Mont Blanc Tunnel, follow the normal route (blue signs) towards Courmayeur to avoid an additional 20 minutes and €20 in motorway tolls.

Via Geneva or Martigny : Take the train from Geneva Airport to Martigny, then travel to Aosta city center via the Great St. Bernard Tunnel . Buses connect Martigny to the Aosta Valley, but renting a car remains a more convenient option for getting around.
