In a few words
Experience a unique Arctic adventure where Finland, Sweden, and Norway meet, in the heart of a wild and unspoiled territory. Between Norwegian fjords, Finnish tundra, and snow-capped peaks, this journey immerses you in one of the most authentic and secluded regions of the Far North.
From Tromsø, Norway, gateway to the Arctic, to the pristine expanses of Kilpisjärvi, Finland, each day is an immersion in magnificent landscapes sculpted by winter. Snowshoeing to the mythical Mount Saana, hiking to the Three Borders Monument, ice fishing on a frozen lake, driving a dog sled team… so many intense experiences to fully experience the magic of the North.
As evening falls, silence envelops the tundra and all eyes turn to the sky. Here, far from any light pollution, the Northern Lights offer an unforgettable spectacle in an almost surreal atmosphere.

Circuit characteristics
This trip includes 3 to 6 hours of activity per day, without any major technical difficulties. However, the environment can be demanding due to changing weather conditions: cold, wind, rain, snow. A good ability to adapt is therefore essential.
Recommended physical preparation
No need to be a seasoned adventurer: the activities are accessible to anyone who enjoys walking for a few hours, taking the time to explore, and marveling at nature's rhythm. For those less accustomed to walking, gentle preparation is recommended: a few outings, 2 to 3 times a week before departure, will allow you to fully enjoy the activities on site. Snowshoeing and walking in the snow require more effort and can make your steps heavier.
Activities during the stay
The elevation gains remain moderate (up to 300m). Depending on the weather (snow, wind), some stages may be more challenging. The routes will be adapted to the terrain conditions. This tour is suitable for people in good physical condition, accustomed to hiking in the mid-mountains. No snowshoeing experience is required.
Spirit of the stay
Travel in a small group, in a friendly and participatory spirit. Everyone contributes to the collective life (preparing meals, loading). Solidarity, mutual support, and good humor set the rhythm of the adventure.
Suitable for ages 14 and up.

The last few kilometers offer a final spectacle, winding through forests, fjords, and mountains.
Back in Tromsø at the end of the day, we take advantage of some free time to stroll around or do some shopping. Why not leave with a locally made Norwegian wool sweater, or a kuksa, that famous Sami wooden cup?

Day 8
Note
This itinerary is provided as an indication: depending on weather and operational conditions, your tour guide may modify the day-by-day itinerary for your safety and that of the group or for organizational reasons.
The Northern Lights are spectacular but unpredictable phenomena. They depend primarily on solar activity and are only visible when the sky is sufficiently clear.
The observation of the Northern Lights therefore remains the result of random parameters that we cannot control and for this reason, we cannot guarantee their observation 100%.

Equipment to bring

- A personal first aid kit
- A lip balm
- A tube of sunscreen
- Vaseline or moisturizing cream
- High-protection sunglasses or ski goggles
- An insulated thermos to keep your drink hot at lunchtime
- A lightweight water bottle with a minimum capacity of 1 liter
- A Tupperware container, cutlery, and a cup
- A headlamp, with spare batteries
- A specialty from your region to discover and share together
Optional:
- A camera (be careful with batteries as they don't last long in the cold)
- A camera tripod for aurora borealis photography
- An external battery (to be placed in carry-on luggage)
- Earplugs
- A knife (to be put in checked baggage)
- Some hand warmers
Clothing to bring
Plan for a "3-layer" system:
For clothing, the layering method is best. This involves wearing several layers of clothing, including...
Layers closer to the body allow sweat to escape easily. Other layers retain heat or
protect the body from external conditions.
1/ The base layer (directly against the skin)
Complete warm underwear (tights and long-sleeved top).
2/ The intermediate layer
A warm sweater or thick fleece.
3/ The outer layer
It protects you from the wind and snow. We recommend a Gore-Tex type jacket or a warm ski jacket.
- A long jacket with a hood (Gore-Tex type or ski jacket)
- Waterproof trekking pants or ski pants
- A pair of shoes suitable for snowshoeing. They must have several qualities: a high upper, a minimum of rigidity, be warm and made for winter, and be waterproof. (The shoes are designed to fit snowshoes or Nordic touring skis.) Sorel boots are ideal (Caribou or Glacier models). Avoid "Moon Boots," which offer no ankle support and are unsuitable for a day trip.
- Fleece (synthetic fiber). This has the advantage of being resistant, warm, lightweight; it dries quickly and offers a soft feel.
- A down jacket (optional but very practical for staying warm during the lunch break or in the evening while observing the Northern Lights)
- Warm sweaters
- Technical underwear, top and bottom. This is your first layer of insulation, so make sure it's good. Fine technical fibers or wool are very effective, warm, flexible, comfortable, and lightweight. They also dry very quickly.
- Pairs of warm hiking socks (wool)
- A neck warmer or balaclava
- A pair of glove liners
- A pair of ski gloves (in addition to liner gloves)
- A beanie
- Nightwear
- Clothes for evenings out and for going out in town
- A pair of slippers for use in accommodations
- A swimsuit to enjoy the saunas in the evening
- Remember to keep your extremities (hands, feet, nose) well covered as they are very sensitive to the cold. These parts of the body cool down very quickly when inactive.
