- Overall, a very good trip. The required fitness level is exactly as described. Everything is organized by the local agency; you just have to relax and enjoy your journey. The meals are generally very generous and delicious! The French-speaking guide I had speaks French relatively well, though sometimes with some difficulty. Furthermore, during one hike, this same guide wasn't bothered that the group was separated by more than 70 meters, making the hike almost solitary… Aside from that, the guide is kind-hearted and enjoys sharing his culture. Overall, a very good trip to discover northern Kyrgyzstan!
Review of the local agency:
The local agency Khirghiz'What was relatively discreet in its communication. It would have been appreciated to receive a message before departure explaining the beginning of the trip, even though it was briefly described in the information sheet. However, during the trip, I had to change accommodations because the mountain altitude made me very uncomfortable. As a result, I descended the mountain with another group from the same agency, whom I happened to meet. During this descent, I received two meals and accommodation that were not included in my trip. The local agency was kind enough not to charge me for these "extras."
Similarly, on the last day, no breakfast was included according to the schedule, yet the hotel (or agency) provided us with sandwiches and snacks for our departure. Very kind of them.
Opinion on Decathlon's commitment to responsible tourism:
One of the hikes offered during the trip included a return trip in a Soviet-era truck. This was particularly jarring because, while the hike itself is high in the mountains, the path is constantly used by 4x4s and trucks. I understand that the truck is there to allow us to return from a potentially strenuous hike; however, all these trucks driving through the mountains gradually destroy the path, the natural environment, and the experience. I understand that this is done to allow as many people as possible to do the hike, but I see it more as a crime against nature.
Although I enjoyed the chaotic truck ride, it should not have happened, if only to preserve the natural site.
