The expert's opinion

This trip is suitable for travelers in good physical condition, capable of undertaking several days of walking.

  1. In Tajikistan , the trek takes place between 2,350 and 3,850 meters above sea level, with stages of 5 to 7 hours of walking per day. The route follows well-maintained mountain trails, without any particular technical difficulties. The elevation gain can reach 1,150 meters in a single day.
  2. In Uzbekistan , the program is more relaxed. It mainly consists of cultural visits and walks in the cities, without any physical demands.
  3. In Kyrgyzstan , we also hike at altitude, on accessible trails, in vast natural landscapes. Only the day trip to Tash Rabat (Day 23) is comparable in difficulty to the Tajik trek.

To fully enjoy your trip, it is recommended to engage in regular physical activity, ideally starting in the month before departure. An hour of brisk walking or jogging twice a week is a good way to improve your endurance.

INFORMATION ON HIGH ALTITUDE AND ACUTE MOUNTAIN SICKNESS:

Trips involving nights above 3000 meters altitude are suitable for people in very good health, with appropriate physical condition.

High mountains are a unique environment, often harsh on the body (cold, dryness, sun, hypoxia, etc.). Among the various altitude-related illnesses, the symptoms of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) must be recognized and never underestimated. These are signs of an excessively rapid ascent: your body hasn't had time to adapt to the lack of oxygen (hypoxia). Headaches, insomnia, loss of appetite, edema, and nausea are the most common symptoms. These symptoms are common and relatively mild when they remain moderate. They disappear over time, provided you slow down or stop the ascent. Otherwise, AMS can lead to serious conditions, such as cerebral edema and pulmonary edema.
