Just an hour from Villa de Leyva, embark on a transformative journey guided by Lucho and/or Andrea, local community leaders dedicated to protecting water, biodiversity and life from the threats of mining and monoculture.
You will explore ancient trails surrounded by wild orchids, tree ferns, and moss-covered Andean forests, leading to the sacred páramo , where several species of frailejones flourish, along with native and medicinal plants. Along the way, visit symbolic sites such as the Piedra de las Gualas , the Mirador de los Enamorados , and the impressive Valle de los Frailejones , where these millennia-old plants, which grow only a few millimeters a year, stand like sentinels of time.
The trail covers a distance of 10 km round trip and takes approximately 4 hours. It begins at an altitude of 2,946 meters and reaches 3,300 meters above sea level. The hike traverses high Andean forest, sub-páramo, and páramo ecosystems, offering an easy level of difficulty with an elevation gain of 354 meters. The route is flexible and can be adjusted from 5 km to 18 km, depending on the hiker's preferences.
