During day hikes, lunches are picnics featuring local products. Meals are prepared by a cook during the treks. We eat in restaurants in towns and villages on sightseeing days.
Breakfast is generally light . The most substantial meal is lunch, ideal for enjoying the delicious regional specialties. On the coast, you'll enjoy ceviche , a marinade of fish, shrimp, or other seafood made with lime, chilies, and onions. Roasted meats, especially guinea pig (cuy), often spiced and served with sweet potatoes, are a favorite among the mountain people, while lomo saltado, sliced pork loin fried with onions, tomatoes, and potatoes (papas), accompanied by rice or corn, is a popular dish throughout the country. For a simple yet delicious meal, try palta rellena : an avocado stuffed with shredded chicken, potatoes, and mayonnaise.
During the trek, boiled water is available daily for refilling your water bottles. Drinks, including bottled water, are at your own expense during your stay. You can refill your water bottles at your accommodation. It is recommended to treat the water with purification tablets (such as Micropur or Hydroclonazone). Avoid purchasing plastic bottles whenever possible, as they then need to be recycled.
If you need to buy bottled water, we recommend purchasing 5-liter bottles to refill your water bottles as needed. If you plan to buy these bottles, please inform your guide at the beginning of the tour so they can schedule a stop at the supermarket.
