The expert's opinion

Circuit characteristics

The program includes 4 to 8 hours of daily activities, without any major technical difficulties. However, the Norwegian environment can be demanding due to changing weather conditions (wind, rain, temperature variations). A good capacity for adaptation is therefore necessary. The succession of hikes can lead to progressive fatigue, hence the importance of prior physical preparation.

Recommended physical preparation

To fully enjoy this adventure, good physical condition is essential.

It is recommended to engage in endurance activity regularly, ideally once or several times a week.

You should also be used to walking moderate to long distances, with elevation changes, in order to approach hikes in good conditions.

On-site activities

The hikes feature elevation gains of up to 1100 meters. This trip is suitable for experienced hikers who regularly hike in the mid-mountain range. Norwegian trails can be challenging (scree slopes, wet areas, steep or uneven sections), and are sometimes equipped with footbridges or handrails. Weather conditions can further increase the physical difficulty.

Spirit of the stay

The trip takes place in a small group, in a friendly and participatory spirit. Everyone contributes to daily tasks (meals, logistics), promoting mutual support, solidarity and good humor.

Suitable for ages 14 and up.

Hiking

  • Average duration/day: 5h

Heading towards Norway – Arrival in Bodø

    • Accommodation 2-star hotel
    • Breakfast not included
    • Lunch not included
    • Dinner not included

This is the big start of our Norwegian adventure! We set our sights on the north and land in Bodø, the true gateway to the Lofoten Islands.

Upon arrival, we met the local team and the rest of the group: the first exchanges took place, and the spirit of the trip began to take shape.

Depending on the schedule, enjoy some free time to stroll through the alleys of this charming port city, between the seafront and small local spots.

At the end of the day, we settled into our accommodation and spent our first night on Norwegian soil. The change of scenery could begin.

    Day 1

Note

From September 1st, the Bodø-Moskenes boat crossing will take place in the early afternoon on the second day with a hike on Bodø in the morning.

66°Nord is a member of the Altaï group, a network of local nature and adventure agencies operating in 30 countries.

In order to offer you a greater number of guaranteed departures, this trip is offered by other companies in the Altaï group: Atalante the trekking specialist, Huwans the adventure travel specialist, and 66°Nord Norway, our local agency.
Some departures are also offered by our direct sales agency, Altai Norway. In this case, the group will be international and guided in French and English.

This program can accommodate participants who started a week earlier or who are continuing their trip after your departure. We sometimes combine tours with the same week schedule to ensure a sufficient number of participants. However, it is also possible for these tours to run separately, with each group operating independently when there are enough participants in each.

Departures in June offer the opportunity to observe the midnight sun. Departures after mid-August offer a high chance of seeing the Northern Lights.

Excellent service in terms of accommodation, food, and exploring the unspoiled nature of the Lofoten Islands. However, be aware that this isn't a trek, but rather a hiking/discovery trip, and you'll need to help with meals (not ideal if you're looking for a relaxing, hands-off holiday).

Magnificent scenery, a fantastic route with ideal weather. Spacious accommodations in a great location. The only downside was the very sweet lunches eaten on the go during the hikes. The hikes are as challenging as expected for a 3-star rating. However, be aware that the terrain is technical and the elevation gain is significant. So make sure you are capable of handling a level 3 hike to avoid slowing the group down 😉

Breathtaking scenery! I highly recommend a trip to the Lofoten Islands, a little paradise in northern Norway. The accommodations were incredible (postcard-perfect!) and the meals were delicious. The weather can be challenging (we had a storm at the beginning of the week), so be sure to pack warm and, above all, waterproof clothing. Despite the difficult weather during my trip, the guide adapted perfectly, allowing us to complete the entire program. The trip's fitness level is appropriate, as described. Most hikes are short, and only two ascents are difficult. However, this is more than compensated for by the magnificent scenery of the Lofoten Islands. It's important to note that the hiking trails can be muddy and challenging due to the weather and Norway's commitment to nature conservation by limiting the number of marked trails.
