In a few words

At 5,895 meters, Kilimanjaro dominates the African continent. During your ascent, you will witness the changing vegetation, from the giant ferns of the primary forest to the high-altitude desert crowned with glaciers and snows of Kilimanjaro.

Your journey will begin amidst fields of ragwort, following streams and waterfalls, heading east towards the Shira Plateau . While the summit and its glaciers may seem close, you'll realize there's still a long way to go before reaching them. You'll venture onto the ridges before descending into the valleys where ragwort and giant lobelia grow in abundance. From here, the sunsets are magnificent and will leave you with unforgettable memories. Above 4,000 meters, you'll arrive in a high-altitude desert, crossing vast fields of ash and ancient lava flows , before reaching the legendary Barafu Hut, your last campsite before the final ascent.

The highlights

  • Minimum 2 people: tailor-made stay, you are alone with your guide
  • A French-speaking tour guide and a success rate of over 90%
  • An ascent and bivouacs in a varied setting in the heart of Kilimanjaro National Park

The expert's opinion

Climbing Kilimanjaro is not a technical climb. However, it is recommended to be in very good physical condition and have some mountaineering experience to maximize your chances of reaching the summit.

We advise you to do some endurance exercise (running, cycling, swimming) at least twice a week, and to stop all intense activity the week before departure to arrive in good shape.

Physical and psychological commitment is important to successfully reach the summit. You reach 5,895 m in 4.5 days, which is difficult in terms of acclimatization.

A minimum of 2 people are required to book this trip. You will be alone with your guide; this is not a group tour.

Management

During this stay, several supervisors will be present to guide and assist you, ensuring your comfort and safety throughout the trip.
Band : 1 supervisor for 2 to 3 people
Languages spoken:
🇫🇷
French
🇬🇧
English
Assistant guide local francophone
Guide anglophone pour le groupe

You are accompanied by an English-speaking guide for the group and, from 3 people, by a local French-speaking assistant guide who has already made the ascent many times, as well as a team of English-speaking assistant guides on the basis of 1 guide for 2 to 3 participants.

You are also accompanied by a logistics team consisting of cook(s) and assistant cook(s), depending on the size of the group, and porters, 3 per participant on average.

The guides and assistant guides have a high level of training: they are all trained by the American label WFR (Wilderness First Responder) and certified by KINAPA (Kilimanjaro National Park Association), which is the authority on the massif.

Management

Security

For your safety, two-way radios, bottled oxygen, and a mountain first-aid kit are provided throughout the ascent, regardless of the number of participants. All our guides and leaders are trained in their use. Every morning and evening, a pulse oximetry test is performed to assess the blood oxygen levels of each participant. This provides valuable preventative care, allowing us to closely monitor your condition if the results are moderate and to descend if the tests are unsatisfactory.

We had an extraordinary week thanks to the support and guidance of Decathlon Travel and their partner agency. The hotel at the beginning and end of our stay was excellent. The staff (porters, cooks, guides) were very professional and attentive. The food was varied and plentiful. This organization certainly contributed to our success in reaching the summit of Kilimanjaro. We highly recommend these organizations for their professionalism and efficiency.
