In a few words

Embark on an unforgettable trek to conquer the roof of Africa (5,895m) ! Renowned as the most beautiful route for climbing Kilimanjaro, the Machame route offers breathtaking views of the Kibo glaciers . Our trek begins in the equatorial rainforest , before traversing landscapes of tall heather and giant groundsels. The Shira Plateau, an ancient crater dominated by Kibo, allows us to reach the Barranco Valley. The final ascent begins from Barafu Camp, leading to the prestigious summit of Africa. After the exertion, the reward. The adventure continues with safaris : we then discover three of the country's most famous parks in complete comfort with our lodge as our base camp: first, Tarangire Park with its baobabs and herds of elephants, then the veritable Noah's Ark of predators and prey of the Ngorongoro Crater , and finally Manyara Park in the heart of the Rift Valley , with its incredible concentration of primates!

The highlights

  • A trek to conquer the roof of Africa
  • Safaris in the country's 3 most famous parks: Tarangire, Manyara and Ngogongoro
  • Nights spent in lodges during the safari for added comfort after the exertion

Management

Security

All our mountain guides and assistant guides are trained by the American mountain safety label WFR (Wilderness First Responder) and certified by KINAPA (Kilimanjaro National Park Association), which is the authority on the massif.

High mountains are a unique environment, often harsh on the body (cold, dryness, sun, hypoxia, etc.). Among the various altitude-related illnesses, the symptoms of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) must be recognized and never underestimated. These are signs of an excessively rapid ascent: your body hasn't had time to adapt to the lack of oxygen (hypoxia). Headaches, insomnia, loss of appetite, edema, and nausea are the most common symptoms. These symptoms are common and relatively mild when they remain moderate. They disappear over time, provided you slow down or stop the ascent. Otherwise, AMS can lead to serious health problems.

For your safety, two-way radios, bottled oxygen, and a mountain first-aid kit are provided throughout the climb, regardless of the number of participants. All our guides and leaders are trained in their use. Every evening, a pulse oximetry test is performed to assess the blood oxygen levels of the participants. This provides a valuable preventative measure.

I climbed Kilimanjaro via the Machame route with the agency ***, which Decathlon recommended. I was amazed by the service and the atmosphere the team provided. I highly recommend this adventure. However, my disappointment lies with ***; the guides weren't equipped with warm clothing (down jackets, gloves, pants, etc.) to take us to 5895m! The little they had came from donations. At the summit, it was -15/-20°C... and a windbreaker wasn't enough to protect them from the cold.

This is an experience everyone should have at least once in their life! The on-site support was perfect, and everything was in place during the 6-day climb to ensure everyone's well-being. The guides were attentive to our needs and found solutions to any problems. The final ascent is challenging, but it's well worth the effort, and the view from the summit is breathtaking. Unforgettable memories guaranteed for everyone!

I recommend this trip to all potential participants, but be aware that you need to be well-trained for the Kilimanjaro trek, which demands significant physical effort due to the altitude, resulting in reduced stamina, and the weather conditions, which require mental fortitude. We were treated like royalty with excellent meals and flawless porter logistics. The only downside is the constant presence of money during the trek. The main guide reminded us each evening during the briefing about the importance of tipping the porters (who are already paid but exploited by their porters' association). The partner agency recommends a minimum of 200 euros per person, which represents an additional expense considering the price of the trip.
