In a few words

This trip offers the ascent of Africa's highest peak via a west-to-east traverse: the approach follows a little-used trail that crosses the wild highlands of the Shira massif . The Shira route gives us the opportunity to reach the summit of Kilimanjaro via an off-the-beaten-path itinerary . We begin the trek at a relatively high altitude to optimize our acclimatization by crossing the Shira highlands. At the legendary Lava Towers (4,570 m), we join the Machame route, renowned as the most beautiful route for climbing Kilimanjaro (5,895 m) . It offers breathtaking and awe-inspiring views of the Kibo glaciers. The descent, more direct via the Mweka route, allows us to appreciate the full spectrum of vegetation, from the mountains to the rainforest.

The highlights

  • 8 days of trekking and a starting point at 2400m to optimize acclimatization and success at the summit
  • The approach hike through the wild highlands of Shira
  • The ascent of the summit of Africa via a west-to-east traverse

Maximum safety level: equipment purchased in South Africa, checked before each climb, and carried on every climb = VHF radios on all treks, oxygen cylinders (2 for a group of more than 4 to 7 people, 3 for a group of 8 to 10, and 4 cylinders for groups larger than 10), first aid kit, pulse oximeter (or saturation monitor) to measure each participant's arterial hemoglobin saturation every morning and evening. These tools allow the guide to decide whether or not to continue the climb in order to avoid any risks.
