Hiking in the Clarée Valley

Starting from Laval, at the end of the drivable road, the upper valley will unfold, majestic with its surrounding peaks… A magnificent progression along the singing notes of the river will lead you to its source: the path will stretch along its clear and rapid waters to bring you to the gates of the Haute Maurienne.

The Thures alpine pasture provides access to the Vallée Étroite, a Névache enclave in Italy. The ascent through the forest is gradual and opens onto a verdant hanging valley, a vast summer pasture for one of the valley's transhumant herds. Crossing the plateau leads to the lake. A magical view awaits you there, set against a backdrop of Dolomite mountains, facing the legendary summit of Mont Thabor.

Perched at an altitude of 2359 meters, Lake Laramon, a jewel of the Hautes Alpes, will undoubtedly be THE postcard image of the valley! After this lake, you will continue along the path which will gradually climb to appreciate this viewpoint facing the Écrins dome and reach Lake Serpent.

The climb from Foncouverte is quite steep, then levels off a bit before reaching the Chardonnet refuge, nestled in a verdant setting that invites a break. Shortly after the refuge, we'll reach the lake of the same name as well as the Châtelard lake, marking the entrance to the magnificent Chardonnet valley.

Starting from Ville-Haute, a bucolic route follows the banks of the Clarée before climbing into the Buffère valley through the Sully woods from La Souchère. A welcoming valley where the alpine hamlet has been beautifully renovated by the refuge wardens.

This will mark the end of your stay. After breakfast, rooms must be vacated around 10am.
