Explore Nepal's traditions and iconic festivals

Depending on the festival, visits are organized—in the streets, palace squares, or with local families—to ensure the experience is as enriching as possible. Today is dedicated to discovering the historical wonders of Kathmandu: Swayambhunath. This is an enormous Buddhist monument atop a hill overlooking the city of Kathmandu. It is also known as the "Monkey Temple" because monkeys from the nearby forest have just "stolen" offerings made to the gods. The next visit is to Patan. This was another kingdom in the Kathmandu Valley before the unification of Nepal in the 18th century. It is well known for its beautiful temples, arts, and crafts. Likewise, its small, hidden Buddhist monasteries called vihars are another beauty to see in Patan. In Patan, attend a Tibetan singing bowl session with a specialist. Return to your hotel.

After breakfast, we set off to explore Kathmandu's old city center—a district with an incredible, timeless atmosphere—also known as Basantapur (the Spring City). Here, you'll have the opportunity to see the Kumari, a young girl revered as a living goddess by the Newars, the indigenous people of the Kathmandu Valley. We'll also explore the colorful and lively alleyways of Asun Tole and Indra Chowk, rich in both history and culture. Then, we'll visit the great stupa of Bodhnath, a sacred Buddhist site located in the heart of the Tibetan quarter, where many monasteries of exile were built. The late afternoon is free time at the hotel or in a monastery.

Early in the morning, attend Buddhist prayers at a monastery near the hotel. After breakfast, drive to the highlands of Nagarkot, a beautiful viewpoint offering stunning views of the Himalayan peaks. At Jaharsingh Pauwa, we begin our trek along a ridge overlooking the Himalayas: Mount Langtang (7210m), Mount Ganesh (7424m), Mount Dorje Lakpa (6900m), and others. The hike takes us through a forest and past small villages to Nagarkot. Enjoy sunset over the Himalayas from your hotel terrace.

We witness a sunrise over the Himalayas, literally a snow-covered landscape, and enjoy the golden hues on several snow-capped peaks. After breakfast, we explore the region on foot: villages, cultures, people, mountains—the route depends on your fitness level and preferences (hiking duration options: 1 to 5 hours!). We return to the hotel after the day's adventure. Depending on the festival, the guide may adjust the order of activities in Nagarkot or elsewhere.

Another sunrise over the Himalayas, then a short transfer to Telkot, from where we'll enjoy a pleasant hike to an ancient village called Changunarayan, with a Hindu pagoda of the same name. Changunarayan is considered the oldest functioning temple in the country, dedicated to the god Vishnu. Next, a short transfer to Bhaktapur, whose medieval alleyways offer a journey into glorious history. This city showcases the ancient charm of Nepal and the Newars, the indigenous people of the Kathmandu Valley, who created magnificent monuments like the Nyatapole Temple. We'll also visit Datatraya, Durabar Square, and the pottery district, all within walking distance.

We're still enjoying the peaceful morning atmosphere in Bhaktapur. After breakfast, a short transfer to Kathmandu. Free time. Rest, relax, look at souvenirs, or the guide will suggest other activities depending on the holidays.
