Apprentice Mushers in Swedish Lapland

The unmissable introductory day!

See you at 10am:

– Explanation of how the day will unfold.

– Presentation of the human and canine packs

– Preparation and loading of the sleds

– Briefing on the basics of sledding

– Setting up the sleds and the lines

– Reception of the dogs who join you one by one in complete freedom

– The dogs are dressed in their respective harnesses (essential for being able to be pulled)

You will therefore be driving your own team of several dogs. You will set off on a half-day hike (approximately 15km) around the camp, in order to put into practice what you learned that morning.

Adrenaline, the feeling of gliding and a few falls are on the agenda, unless you are really good.

Upon your return, a nice hot sauna will be waiting for you to relax in.

This morning, a surprise quiz on sled dogs.

Balto, Punk, Teepi, Peanut, Panaya, Simba… okay, you know them? Come on, we don't blame you!

Today we're setting off on a day-long dogsledding excursion (approximately 35 km). Depending on your skill level, we'll do some cross-country riding so you can put what you've learned into practice.

The landscapes will be varied: forest track, frozen lake, immense peat bog…

For our midday break, we'll stop by a frozen lake where we'll light a fire together. We'll enjoy a hot meal cooked over the campfire, and when we're ready, we'll return to camp.

Upon your return, a nice hot sauna will be waiting for you to relax in.

After a well-deserved lie-in, we set off for the village of Vilhelmina for a relaxing day. On the agenda: a visit to the old workers' quarter with its colorful, solid wood houses. This will provide an opportunity for some historical explanations about the settlement of Northern Sweden and the logging industry.

Then, we headed to the Sami Museum, run by Dorris and Sven-åke, two Lappish craftsmen who will be happy to share their knowledge of reindeer herding and the traditions of their people.

We will have lunch at the hotel while enjoying a magnificent view of the frozen lake. As an option, you can enjoy the hotel's spa, which has a jacuzzi and sauna (approximately €10 per person).

We will also visit the shop of Martin Bergmans, multi-medalist as Sweden's best craftsman for his exceptional local products (smoked salmon, elk steak or dried reindeer meat…).

We can also end the day with a stroll along the lake, usually at sunset.

Heading towards Lake Kota (Lake Sandjön).

We're off to explore our Nordic territories using a very practical tool for powder snow: Nordic touring skis (Altaï skis). They offer a good compromise between skiing and snowshoeing and allow you to cover considerable distances in our gently sloping regions. We'll introduce you to this activity during a day trip with a beautiful hike through the boreal forest, accompanied by our faithful four-legged friends.

For our lunch break, we stopped at a frozen lake to fish. We cut a hole in the ice, prepared our lines, and lit a fire…

A hot meal cooked over a wood fire will be enjoyed while waiting for a bite.

We will return in the mid-afternoon with, perhaps, dinner, and you will have free time at the camp while waiting for the sauna to reach the right temperature.

The departure is organized from the kennel. Once the equipment is adjusted, we all set off together across the snow-covered marshes. The pace is brisk because the dog pulls gently, making our walk easier. The ground is covered in fresh snow, the air is cold, but the walk quickly warms you up. A wonderful bond develops between you and the dog.

Back at camp late morning, we'll share a friendly lunch around the fire pit. It will also be time to say goodbye to the dogs before we take you back to the airport, your heart full of memories!
