Horseback riding in the Vanoise mountains and nights in mountain huts

After preparing the horses and packing Tendresse, we will begin this hike by going up the superb valley of Champagny le Haut to head towards the refuge of the Glière and then towards the col de la Grassaz where a magnificent view of the glacier of the Grande Casse and the Grande Motte awaits us.

We will descend back into the alpine pastures towards the Entre le Lac refuge where we will spend the night after dinner.

Today, we'll cross alpine pastures to the Col du Palet, where we'll have the pleasure of encountering herds of cows, lakes, and streams. We'll pass through Tignes, then head towards the Col de la Leisse for an overnight stay in a mountain refuge after admiring the Grande Motte glacier. The Col de la Leisse will be the highest point of our trek, reaching approximately 2800 meters in altitude. Along the way, we'll likely have the chance to cross snowfields (accumulations of snow that can persist below the permanent snow line, even during part of the summer).

Another magnificent day awaits us. We'll descend the Leisse valley along the stream, where we can admire the high mountain landscapes and the wildlife that thrives there. With a bit of luck, we'll spot some chamois along the way. We'll picnic at the bottom of the Femma valley in the company of marmots, who knows!

We will reach the Plan du Lac refuge where we will be offered an exceptional view of the Vanoise glaciers.

On our way to the Col de la Vanoise. A charismatic highlight of our hike, this pass is characterized by several high-mountain lakes, bordered by scree slopes of the highest mountains in Savoie. We'll stop for lunch at the Refuge du Col de la Vanoise, at the foot of the Grande Casse glacier (3,855m altitude). In the afternoon, we'll descend the other side of the pass towards Pralognan la Vanoise and the Refuge des Barmettes.

For this final day, we'll head back towards Pralognan, crossing through the village, then descend into the valley, passing through forests and mountain villages. Finally, we'll climb back up to reach and conclude this unforgettable adventure in the Champagny valley. After this last leg, we'll take the time to properly care for our horses, thanking them for this wonderful adventure they've given us.
