In a few words

You set off from the heart of Lyon, following in the footsteps of pilgrims from the North and East. After crossing the gentle hills of the Lyonnais region and their orchards, you cross the watershed between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. It is on foot that you leave the Rhône Valley to reach the Loire Valley. On this first section, the terrain is gentle and the stages easy. Your route then joins the Cluny Way as you enter the Monts du Forez. Your path becomes more rugged and the stages longer. You then return to the Loire gorges before arriving in Le Puy-en-Velay.

These routes have preserved many monuments, churches, chapels, priories, etc., and bear witness to the passage of pilgrims over the preceding centuries.

The highlights

  • A varied and interesting hiking trail away from the crowds
  • The visit to Lyon
  • The numerous castles and strongholds: Montarcher, Artias, Lavoûte Polignac, Polignac...
