This legendary route immerses you in a spectacular alpine atmosphere , where the trail, often perched at high altitude , winds through mineral ridges, rocky gaps, and high-altitude lakes.

The expert's opinion

This self-guided trip is for the very experienced and athletic hiker. You enjoy significant elevation gains and always have some energy left to accelerate in case of an emergency (storms, etc.). This route is for experienced hikers, accustomed to multi-day treks with substantial elevation gain, carrying a backpack, and living in very basic conditions.

CARRYING:

When transporting your luggage to the accommodation is not possible, we will limit your luggage to your personal belongings (including your sleeping bag). Food and, if necessary, camping equipment will be transported by our support team.

Security

The GR 20 is a well-marked trail, but you must still be highly skilled in mountain navigation to complete it. Fog, significant snowfields, and potential gaps in the trail markings mean you need to be able to read a map and use a compass and altimeter effectively. The stage descriptions provided in the route guide are additional navigational aids; they do not replace the need for excellent map reading and positioning skills.
