You arrive in the morning at the gîte in Vassieux-en-Vercors, the starting point for your self-guided hiking trip. After a personalized briefing and receiving your roadbook and GPX tracks , you set off for your first hike on the trails of the plateau.
This warm-up hike quickly immerses you in the atmosphere of the Drôme Vercors region , between spruce forests , high-altitude clearings, and initial views of the surrounding ridges. The accessible and varied terrain allows you to get your bearings while enjoying a wild and open environment.
You return to the cottage at the end of the day (your room will be available from 5pm) to share a dinner with local flavours and prepare for the next part of your immersion in the heart of the wide open spaces of the Vercors.
Day 1 -

You set off to discover the Font d'Urle plateau , one of the major sites of the Drôme Vercors . The atmosphere changes rapidly with the appearance of vast karst expanses, limestone cliffs , dolines and sinkholes which create a unique landscape.
The route alternates between easy paths and more challenging sections, offering varied terrain through open landscapes. Panoramic views unfold across the surrounding ridges, and with a little attention, you might spot the marmots that discreetly inhabit these high-altitude areas.
You'll enjoy a picnic lunch in the heart of nature before continuing your hike and returning to Vassieux-en-Vercors. At the end of the day, you'll return to the comfort of the gîte for a welcome rest after this immersion in the high plateaus.
Day 2 -
Ascent of But Saint-Genis and views of the Vercors

After breakfast at the gîte, you'll set off for a day's hike towards But Saint-Genis , an iconic peak in the area. The more challenging route will gradually take you higher, through alpine meadows and along open ridges.
As you climb, the landscapes open up to reveal the Vercors mountains and the valley below. The summit offers a prime vantage point to appreciate the vastness of the plateaus and the diversity of limestone formations that characterize the massif.
You fully enjoy this final immersion in nature before beginning the descent. The hike ends at the end of the day, marking the end of your stay in the Drôme Vercors.

All hikes are flexible and can be lengthened or shortened to suit each participant's fitness level. GPX files are provided. Guided tours are also available for an additional fee.

The guesthouse rooms are available from 5pm . To make the most of your stay, we suggest arriving in the morning so you can enjoy your first hike independently: your room will be waiting for you when you return!
Important: A personal vehicle is highly recommended to fully enjoy your stay. The main hiking trails require a short drive. If you do not have a vehicle, alternative routes to starting directly from the gîte will be suggested.

From the train station to the accommodation:
- Bus: From Valence train station, take the Drôme buses ( Line 05 ) to Saint-Jean-en-Royans, then transfer (often to a demand-responsive transport service or local bus) to Vassieux. Note: service is limited, so be sure to check the timetable on the Cars Région website.
- Taxi: From Die train station (closer but less frequently served by trains), allow approximately 30 minutes for the journey. From Valence TGV station, allow approximately 1 hour 15 minutes (estimated fare between €120 and €160 ).
- Car rental: This is the most recommended option at Valence TGV station to reach the Vercors plateau.
