Lake Iriki and the Chegaga dunes

You are heading towards one of the most beautiful valleys in southern Morocco. Between Imouzzer and Agadir, the Valley of Paradise lives up to its name: a walk of about 2 hours takes you into the heart of unspoiled nature, between palm trees, sculpted rocks and crystal clear water.

You'll pass through authentic Berber villages, share tea with locals, and, depending on the season, even have the opportunity to swim in the gueltas, natural pools formed by the river. A simple, authentic, timeless experience.

After lunch, we head to Taroudant, nicknamed "Little Marrakech." Surrounded by majestic ramparts and nestled in the Souss Valley, between the High Atlas and Anti-Atlas mountains, the city reveals a peaceful atmosphere steeped in history. Almohads, Marinids, Saadians, Portuguese, French… each era has left its mark.

In the evening, you will find the calm of a charming riad, located a few kilometers from Taroudant, for a peaceful night.

You are traveling towards the Anti-Atlas Mountains. Along the way, you will visit an "agadir," an ancient fortified granary dating back 700 years. Originally intended to protect local Berber tribes from enemy attackers, this granary consists of 130 stone compartments that were historically used to store grain, jewelry, and important documents such as marriage certificates, notarial deeds, etc.

Then, at an altitude of 1200 meters, we arrived in Tafraoute, the capital of the Ammeln (a tribe renowned for their commercial skills and business acumen). This village is nestled in the heart of an exceptional natural mountain cirque. Enjoy a bucolic stroll through the valley's typical villages. You're sure to see women dressed in the traditional black haik and wearing the beautiful red babouches of Tafraoute.

Visit an old traditional Berber house where the son will passionately tell you its history, customs and traditions.

Heading south!

The scenery changes dramatically. You leave behind the Atlas Mountains to reach the vast pre-Saharan plains, where the horizon stretches to infinity and the light becomes more intense.

Depending on the weather conditions, the itinerary is adapted: passage through the spectacular Aït Mansour gorges followed by a 4x4 track for a touch of adventure, or a panoramic road punctuated by a visit to a fortified granary, a fascinating witness to Berber history.

In these arid expanses reminiscent of the African savannah, it's not uncommon to see camel caravans slowly making their way across the landscape. A suspended moment, already hinting at the spirit of the desert.

You'll be following in the legendary footsteps of the old Paris-Dakar Rally, crossing the vast, now-dried-up Lake Iriki. The immensity is breathtaking, mirages are frequent… the adventure has already begun!

The track continues through an area of ​​small dunes before reaching the impressive Erg Chegaga, the largest in Morocco: nearly 40 km long, 15 km wide, with dunes that can reach heights of 300 meters. An ocean of sand as far as the eye can see.

The afternoon is free to fully savor this profoundly restorative desert. Settle down atop a dune, walk in the warm sand… and above all, don't miss the sunset. When the dunes blaze with golden and orange hues, the moment becomes simply magical.

As an option, you can also experience a camel ride or a quad bike excursion (at an additional cost).

In the evening, you settle into a bivouac nestled in the dunes. The camp includes a large traditional Berber tent for meals, private tents for sleeping, and shared sanitary facilities.

The evening continues around a campfire, lulled by the captivating rhythms of Sahrawi music, under a starry sky of exceptional purity.

After a good breakfast, you continue along yesterday's track to Mhamid, then begin the ascent of the majestic Drâa Valley. Here, ksour and kasbahs follow one another, creating a spectacular landscape between lush palm groves and arid mountains.

Several stops punctuate the day, depending on your preferences.

In Tamgroute, you'll discover the ancestral know-how of the potters, recognizable by their famous green-tinged ceramics. The village also houses a 17th-century zawiya, still active today, a place of hospitality and spirituality. Its Koranic library is well worth a visit: boasting 4,000 volumes, it is among the richest in North Africa.

Depending on the day of the week, a stop in a rural weekly souk immerses you in an authentic and lively atmosphere, a timeless moment that we particularly like to share.

The highlight of the day is undoubtedly the discovery of a village and its oasis, bathed in the sublime light of late afternoon. The ksar of Tamnougalt, built in the 16th century and the former capital of the Berber Mezguita tribe, is one of the oldest still standing in the valley. Opposite it, the caid's kasbah, perched atop its rocky outcrop, offers a breathtaking panorama of the Drâa palm grove and the Anti-Atlas Mountains.

For this final day, you'll travel to Taznakht, a renowned center for Berber carpets. In this small, celebrated town, artisans perpetuate ancestral skills passed down through generations. Symbolic motifs, natural dyes, meticulous weaving… each piece tells a story.

Then you continue to Taliouine, the Moroccan capital of saffron. Here, “red gold” is cultivated with passion and patience.

Option : If you enjoy hiking and rewarding panoramic views, climbing a Djebel at dawn is an experience not to be missed.

Allow approximately 1 hour 30 minutes for the ascent, at your own pace, through a wild and rugged landscape. The effort is richly rewarded: at the summit, a breathtaking and serene view of the valley unfolds before you.
