Trekking on the Atlantic coast from Marrakech to Essaouira

Leaving Marrakech, we head towards the Atlantic coast. Gradually, the Anti-Atlas Mountains come into view, revealing their distinctive peaks and red hues. We then continue towards Imsouane, following the ocean along one of the most beautiful coastal roads in the country.

A friendly lunch marks the start of our adventure before we begin the trek across the Atlantic.

He takes us to explore part of the Moroccan coast, combining walking, deserted coves, and nomadic life. We travel up the beaches from south to north.

On this first day, we meet our companions on the sand who will share this expedition with us. Guide, cook, camel drivers and dromedaries—we're all here. A final check of the equipment and loading of gear, then we take our places in our caravan, and off we go for these 5 days of adventure.

Today, we cross an argan forest to reach the site of our first night's bivouac. We sleep by the sea near a small fishing village.

This morning, we left the beach and headed towards the small white villages along the coast. With argan forests nearby, we understood that one of the main activities in these villages is argan cultivation. A family from the village opened their home to us and prepared lunch. They invited us to taste their homemade honey, argan oil, and also their "Amlou," which is a mixture of almonds and argan.

After lunch and probably a last glass of mint tea, we leave the family to continue our walk. A track leads us to a fishing village and its large beach. This is where we set up camp for the night.

We go to meet the villagers, more specifically the fishermen. We find them near their boats. They are unloading their small vessels. Like them, we follow the tides. They dictate our movements in certain places. We continually move away from and towards the shore. From the argan tree plateaus, the view of the ocean is often spectacular.

We take a small path that runs along the Atlantic coast. Here, the coastal flora and fauna are abundant. We reach a cave where we stop for our picnic lunch. Not far away is a beach where we can swim before finishing our hike for the day.

Tonight, our bivouac is set up near cliffs overlooking the mountains.

All morning, we walk on the sand along the sea. On the beach, we put on or take off our shoes as we please. Seagulls and cormorants follow and fly overhead as we walk. We enjoy a well-deserved lunch near a waterfall. We take the time to rest our legs and recharge our batteries with the sound of the cascading water in the background.

We spent the afternoon near the waterfalls before resuming our hike for a short while to reach our campsite for the night. Our caravan had arrived before us, and they welcomed us with a glass of hot tea. Time to relax and enjoy the sunset over the sea.

We wake up facing the Atlantic, to the sound of the waves. Today is our last day of hiking. We begin the day by walking along two very long beaches, popular with water sports enthusiasts. It is here, at Sidi Kaouki, that our caravan sets up camp for the last time. We enjoy the beautiful beach and its surroundings before sharing a moment together around the campfire.

We leave Sidi Kaouki to reach Essaouira, whose captivating atmosphere is revealed after a short journey.

The day is perfect for exploring its lively streets and port. We have lunch in Essaouira.

Then we resume our journey towards Marrakech. The road takes us away from the Atlantic breeze and gradually closer to the mountainous landscapes until we feel the dry atmosphere of Marrakech.

Upon arrival, we are dropped off at our hotel to enjoy a well-deserved moment of relaxation.
