Security

Our guides are highly experienced in the prevention, detection and treatment of altitude sickness, as they care for more than 1,000 mountaineers per year.

Health checks are performed twice daily using a pulse oximeter to monitor your oxygen saturation and pulse rate.

We administer the Lake Louise Scoring System (LLSS) to help determine if you are experiencing symptoms of altitude sickness and their severity.

Our guides are certified Wilderness First Responders (WFR). They have the necessary tools to make critical medical and evacuation decisions on site.

We carry oxygen cylinders on all climbs and can administer them to quickly treat climbers suffering from moderate or severe altitude sickness.

On the northern routes, our staff carries a portable stretcher to evacuate climbers who need to descend but are unable to walk on their own. (Wheeled stretchers provided by the park are available on the other routes.)

Our guides can trigger a helicopter evacuation through Kilimanjaro MedAir, a helicopter rescue operation.

Other supervisors

We provide sufficient guides, assistant guides, leaders and porters for the entire duration of the trek.
