Security

Our guides are highly experienced in the prevention, detection and treatment of acute mountain sickness, as they accompany more than 800 mountaineers per year.

Our guides perform two daily health checks using a pulse oximeter to monitor your oxygen saturation and heart rate.

They also use the Lake Louise Rating System (LLSS) to determine if you are experiencing symptoms of altitude sickness and how severe they are.

Our guides are certified Wilderness First Responders (WFR). They have the necessary skills to make critical medical decisions and organize an evacuation on site.

Our team carries oxygen cylinders on all climbs and can administer it quickly to treat moderate and severe cases of acute mountain sickness.

On the northern routes, our staff has a portable stretcher to evacuate climbers who need to descend but cannot walk on their own. Wheeled stretchers provided by the park are available on the other routes.

Our team is able to launch a helicopter evacuation via Kilimanjaro MedAir, a helicopter rescue operation.

Our staff also have a first aid kit to treat minor scrapes, cuts and blisters.

Other supervisors

We provide a sufficient number of porters and a cook for the entire duration of the trek.
