    Levels

    Beginner
For those wishing to discover mountain biking, enduro, or "All Mountain" riding, and who have little or no experience mountain biking in the mountains. You want to learn the essential technical skills for both descending and climbing on rideable trails.
    Intermediate
For occasional mountain bikers. You are comfortable shifting gears and modulating your braking, and you can clear obstacles by unweighting the bike. You will ride on 4x4 tracks that offer a gradual progression, though you may encounter the occasional steep section. Daily elevation gain is approximately 400 to 600 meters.
    Confirmed
For mountain bikers who are already enthusiasts with some riding experience. You have mastered gear shifting and braking control, and are able to clear obstacles by unweighting the bike, as well as ride up or down short, steep sections. Ideal for riders looking to improve their descending skills on singletrack trails that are rarely very steep but sometimes technical (rocks, roots, etc.) without being exposed, featuring daily elevation gains of 600 to 1,000 meters.
    Advanced
For mountain bikers who are already skilled descenders and confident in their technique. You are capable of navigating switchbacks, riding along off-camber trails without hesitation, controlling your braking, and clearing small obstacles (such as roots, rocks, and steps). The long, sustained descents—which increase in difficulty throughout the week—are sometimes steep, often technical, and occasionally exposed, though rarely dangerous. Expect daily elevation gains of between 800m and 1,400m.
    Expert
For experts and experienced, regular riders. You are capable of navigating switchbacks and off-camber trails, controlling your braking, and clearing obstacles such as roots, rocks, and steps. The descents are long and sustained—often steep, technical, and sometimes exposed. You are looking to challenge yourself with daily elevation changes of 1,400 to 2,000 meters.

The expert's opinion

This e-bike tour is designed for cyclists who occasionally ride mountain bikes and are comfortable shifting gears and navigating small obstacles. The electric assist makes tackling the elevation changes effortless: of the 13 stages, some days are more demanding (up to approximately 1,270 m of elevation gain on the Utemukur–Panguruan crossing or 1,337 m between Bukit Lawang and Tangkahan), while others remain very accessible (25 to 45 km of flat to moderate terrain). The route mainly follows small paved roads, country lanes, and the typical red dirt tracks of Sumatra: no major highways. Expect an average of 5 hours of cycling per day, excluding breaks . The batteries are removable and interchangeable, recharged each evening, with a range of over 60 km per charge. A support vehicle follows at all times, carrying spare parts, spare bikes, and water. Two days of easy trekking complete the adventure: a trek in the Bukit Lawang jungle to encounter orangutans, and a self-guided walk on Samosir. Bring walking shoes, light rain gear, and warm clothing for the higher elevations around Lake Toba (1,000 m). This route is ideal for recreational cyclists who want to enjoy the scenery without strenuous activity.

Security

Your safety is our top priority. Throughout your stay, a private support vehicle follows the group at all times, equipped with spare parts, backup bikes, a repair kit, drinking water, and a first-aid kit. Electric bikes are serviced every evening by our technical team, and the removable batteries are recharged overnight to guarantee a range of over 60 km the next day. Helmets are recommended and available upon request. The itinerary carefully avoids major Indonesian highways, favoring small secondary roads, country tracks, and quiet rural paths. French-speaking telephone support is available 7 days a week throughout the trip in case of emergency or logistical questions. Bukit Lawang's jungle treks are always led by local rangers certified by Gunung Leuser National Park, ensuring safety in the face of wildlife. Our team works with a network of partner hospitals and clinics in Medan and the main towns along the route. Repatriation and medical assistance insurance is strongly recommended and must be purchased by the traveler before departure. Our agency has been established in Indonesia for over 20 years, guaranteeing in-depth knowledge of the country.

Note

The program itinerary is provided as a guide and may be adjusted locally by the tour team depending on weather conditions (rainy season from November to March), road conditions, Lake Toba conditions for boat crossings, local logistical constraints, transport schedules, the group's physical condition, or any event beyond our control.
