The expert's opinion

Circuit characteristics:

This trip offers 3 to 6 hours of activity per day, without any major technical difficulties. However, the environment can be demanding due to changing weather conditions (cold, wind, rain, snow). A good ability to adapt is therefore necessary.

Physical preparation:

No expert level required: the activities are accessible to anyone who enjoys walking for a few hours and discovering nature. For those less experienced, it is advisable to train 2 to 3 times a week before departure. Snowshoeing on snow requires extra effort.

During the stay:

The route presents no particular difficulties, with moderate elevation gains (up to 600 m). Depending on the weather (snow, wind), some stages may be more challenging and will be adjusted accordingly. This trek is suitable for people in good physical condition, accustomed to hiking in mid-mountain terrain. No snowshoeing experience is required.

Spirit of the stay:

The trip takes place in a small group, in a friendly and participatory atmosphere. Everyone contributes to the small daily tasks (meals, loading the vehicle). Solidarity and good humor enrich the experience.

Suitable for ages 14 and up.

Note

Seasons and hikes

From October to November:

At this time of year, snow doesn't always cover northern Norway. Therefore, most hikes are done on foot. As conditions can vary from year to year, our guides also carry snowshoes if needed.

Starting in early December:

Winter has settled in for good, and snowfall has become more abundant. Hiking then takes place on snowshoes, a fun and accessible way to discover the snowy landscapes.

Light and winter conditions

From October to November, then from February to March:

The days offer several hours of natural light. In autumn, the hues are soft and ever-changing, while from February onward the light gradually increases, creating stunning contrasts across the snow-covered landscapes. Each week brings a little more light, transforming the atmosphere and the panoramas.

From December to January:

This is the period of the polar night. The sun does not cross the horizon, but a diffuse and colored light nevertheless illuminates several hours of the day, creating a unique and particularly photogenic atmosphere.

Depending on the duration of the outings and the time of year, the use of a headlamp may be necessary.

Northern Lights

The Northern Lights are natural phenomena that are as fascinating as they are unpredictable. Their appearance depends on solar activity and the clarity of the sky: they can therefore never be 100% guaranteed.

A wonderful Norwegian getaway in great company! Despite the unpredictable weather, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and even managed to see the Northern Lights. A big thank you to Quentin, our guide, who brilliantly managed the week. Delicious meals at every stop, a great atmosphere, and the flexibility to adapt everything to the weather and the group.

The fact that the hotel doesn't offer breakfast is a real drawback! It's just awful if you don't have a sweet tooth! Considering the price of the trip, it's unacceptable. I had to buy a hamburger on the day of departure because I was starving after just tea and a measly yogurt!

Our guide Caroline was really nice, but freeze-dried soups every day!... A blender doesn't take up much space and is lightweight, it would allow us to vary the pleasures of lunch.

She managed the hiking conditions very well, adapting to the weather, and explained everything clearly. A big thank you to you, Caro; it's obvious you know your stuff. You're also very knowledgeable about the history and formation of fjords and the sounds of snow!

When the weather conditions for seeing the Northern Lights finally met after a week, we asked our guide to allow us to see them in the best conditions (less light pollution).

This was not part of his responsibilities, even though the trip is sold for the Northern Lights in Lapland....

She suggested we go to a park, just a street away! I know the other group's guide took them to a festival, a 20-minute walk away. We weren't so lucky, and I'm very disappointed. So, please do what's necessary, because that's also the point of the trip. We weren't expecting her to stay up all night, far from it. A huge disappointment. She could have at least suggested a place we could easily have found with Google Maps if she didn't want to accompany us. A place up high and with no light.

Hello Anne,

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are pleased that you appreciated Caroline's guidance, teaching methods, and her management of the hikes in light of the weather.

We regret that some aspects disappointed you. While most feedback mentions meals carefully prepared by the guide, it is possible that freeze-dried meals were occasionally offered depending on the day's logistics.

Regarding the Northern Lights, a favorable weather window at the end of the stay allowed for their observation, which was appreciated by the group.

Thank you again for your testimony!

Our guide, J.de ***, made our trip a complete success, including the Northern Lights viewing. He introduced us to Norway by sharing his knowledge and travel anecdotes. He created a friendly atmosphere within the group, and his preparation of evening meals contributed greatly to this. He also tailored the hikes to the participants' expectations.

The success of our trip was due to several fortunate factors: perfect snow, not-too-frigid temperatures, and skies conducive to truly extraordinary Northern Lights… but it was also, and above all, the skill of our guide, Pauline L., that made all the difference. Thanks to her expertise and boundless energy, she masterfully organized our trip, suggesting hikes adapted to the day's conditions, preparing delicious and hearty meals, managing the group with kindness and professionalism, and respecting the surrounding nature. Our guide, Pauline L, was simply amazing: incredibly dedicated, organized, eco-conscious, kind, dynamic, and cheerful… as well as an excellent cook! The tour was well-paced, and the accommodations were very comfortable. Pauline perfectly adapted the days to the unpredictable weather, and we were lucky enough to witness an incredible display of the Northern Lights. There were six of us (the ideal group size).
