Venice - Santa Lucia station - San Polo - Santa Croce

    • Activity Hiking
    • Duration of the activity 4h
    • Positive elevation gain 20 m
    • Negative elevation 20 m
    • Accommodation 3-star hotel
    • Breakfast not included
    • Lunch included
    • Dinner included

Depending on the arrival time and the chosen route, several meeting points are possible: reception at 10am at the Venice Santa Lucia train station luggage storage (or around 1pm in the Rialto district, or at 4:30pm at the Santa Lucia train station luggage storage)

Our first day exploring Venice takes us through the "sestieri" (districts) of San Polo and Santa Croce. After leaving our luggage at the Venice Santa Lucia train station's left luggage service, we set off to discover Venice through the San Polo and Santa Croce districts, the Rialto Bridge, the Frari Church, and Titian's famous Assumption. We'll explore a multitude of small squares, churches, and canals. In the late afternoon, we'll transfer by vaporetto (1.5 hours) to our 3-star hotel located in the lagoon.

    Day 1

Note

We decided to no longer include the visit to St. Mark's Basilica: this site involves a 30-minute wait despite booking in advance. The visit is rushed, with a density and flow of visitors that doesn't allow for quality explanations from our guide.

A visit to the Doge's Palace is optional on this trip. Based on experience, our hikers only spend an hour there. The half-day of free time allows you to visit it (with an audio guide), and our Museum Pass includes this visit, so there's no extra charge.

The presence of lagoons in Venice attracts a large number of mosquitoes during the height of summer (July and August). During these two months, we recommend you bring a good mosquito repellent.

Italian authorities now impose an access tax on travelers visiting Venice. Our hikers are subject to this tax: it is included in our price and is managed by our guide. He will present the tax payment receipts (via QR codes) to the authorities if stopped during your stay. For extended stays, or if you have free time during your trip, our guide will provide you with this QR code locally (via smartphone, for example).

Accommodation

🏨 3-star hotel - Days 1 to 5

Category 3*, family hotel with good food located in Punta Sabbioni, 30 minutes by vaporetto from Piazza San Marco and 1 kilometer walk from the pier.

The types of accommodation described above are indicative only, particularly with regard to their amenities (swimming pool, etc.). In the event of unavailability in our usual accommodations, we will book a property of a similar category.

There are 3 options for this appointment, to be chosen according to your route and arrival time:

  1. On Monday at Venice-Santa-Lucia station at 10am, in front of the station's left luggage facility ("deposito bagagli"), on platform N1. You will need to have left your luggage at the station's left luggage facility before meeting your guide (highly recommended).
  2. For those who have opted for a route that arrives later (to avoid an extra night the night before, for example), you will call your guide to arrange your meeting with the group: this will take place around 1 p.m., in the Rialto area and after lunch.
  3. Depending on your route and arrival time, the meeting can also take place later on day 1, at 4:30 p.m., at the Santa Lucia station luggage storage (vaporetto departure at 5 p.m., time may vary).
  4. For those arriving by car before the trip, the additional nights will be spent at the hotel booked for the entire stay in Punta Sabbioni. Free parking is available at the hotel. The journey to the meeting point takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, including a 1km walk to the Punta Sabbioni dock (where the vaporetto departs, etc.).

Dispersion:

  1. Luggage storage at Santa Lucia Station: The station's luggage storage is located along the rightmost platform as you enter the station. Therefore, it's the leftmost platform when you get off the train. Don't waste too much time getting there, as there's often a queue when trains arrive from Paris.
Access by plane
The nearest airport isVenise Marco-Polo Or Trévise
  1. Getting from Venice Marco Polo Airport: Two bus companies are available to take you from Marco Polo Airport to Venice. The bus drops you off at Piazzale Roma, in the north of Venice, and from there you simply need to cross the Calatrava Bridge to reach the train station (500m walk).

For ATVO buses, you need to take Line 35 (Departure from stand D2). The ticket costs €10, luggage included, and can be purchased from the ticket machine located at the ATVO bus stop, at the airport exit. (€9 for a round-trip ticket, valid for 6 days).

At Marco Polo Airport, if you don't have any change, you can buy it directly from the driver. However, for your return bus to Piazzale Roma, you cannot buy your ticket from the driver; you must buy it at the ATVO office located under the large Carabinieri parking lot.

If you are arriving by car, you can park safely in the hotel's outdoor parking lot. Located in Punta Sabbioni, on the other side of the lagoon, we recommend arriving the day before to ensure you are on time for your meeting on Monday morning at Venice's Santa Lucia train station.

The next morning to get to the meeting you will have to walk from the hotel to the PUNTA SABBIONI pier (about 15 minutes) and then take the vaporetto line 14 to the Lido, there take line 5.2 to the FERROVIA stop (Station).
