Within the country, we will primarily travel by super-express train: the Shinkansen, but also by train and bus. Japan boasts one of the most developed transportation networks in the world: its rail network alone covers virtually every possible destination. The Shinkansen is renowned for its exceptional punctuality, with trains departing every 1 minute 30 seconds during peak hours.

In Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka, we will travel by subway or regional trains.

Other journeys will be made by minibus.

Practical information

Specific formalities

Specifics

Before your departure, check with the embassy or consulate regarding the entry and stay requirements for your destination country. You can also find this information on the France Diplomatie website ( https://www.diplomatie.gouv.fr/fr/dossiers-pays/ ).

In the case of flights with stopovers operated by different airlines, also check the entry requirements of the countries you are transiting through.

It is your responsibility to ensure you are in compliance, particularly regarding the validity of your identity documents (for example, some countries require your passport to be valid for at least six months after your return) , visa requirements, necessary vaccinations, and health recommendations. And don't forget to consider any customs restrictions and other potential requirements of your destination or transit country.

ℹ️ Information may change up to the departure date, remember to regularly check official websites.

Equipment

Clothing to bring

In spring as in autumn, you should bring comfortable clothes and shoes for walking, and take:

  • sweater or fleece, undershirt or warm cardigan,
  • windbreaker, plastic poncho, raincoat…
  • If possible, a pair of shoes that are easy to take off for various visits and evenings out, as we take our shoes off very often.
  • For women, avoid low-cut necklines and partially bare backs.
  • (we can't say that, but we should: for everyone, use perfumes or aftershave in minimal mode, the Japanese do not wear perfume, or very little).

It can get quite cold, especially at night, which falls early, until April 15th and from the end of October.

For hiking, good walking shoes, preferably waterproof, but no other specific equipment.
