Meals: Breakfast and lunch / Duration: 12 hours / Pick-up from your accommodation between 6:00 and 6:30 am / Return to San Pedro city centre.
Explore the village of Toconao, nicknamed the "Lost Corner," for its authentic charm, peaceful atmosphere, unique climate, beautiful architecture, and handicrafts. Visit Laguna Chaxa, a marginal area of the Atacama Salt Flat, in the Soncor sector of the Los Flamencos National Reserve.
Next, head southeast toward the Andes Mountains to camp in the high-altitude village of Socaire. Visit the village church and learn about its agriculture. Then, ascend to approximately 4,200 meters (15,000 feet) to visit Laguna Miscanti and Laguna Meñiques, part of the Los Flamencos National Reserve. These lagoons are characterized by their volcanic and mountainous landscapes. Observe the wildlife, including the horned coot, Andean flamingo, Andean cock-of-the-rock, Baird's sandpiper, Andean plover, Andean duck, and Andean goose. The flora is primarily composed of the Llareta and Paja Brava lagoons, fed by groundwater from glacial meltwater. Continue your journey along the foothills of the southern Andes to the Salar de Talar, also known as Piedras Rojas (Red Rocks). Here, the natural oxidation and erosion of the rocks create striking colors that stand out against the Andean backdrop.
