    Mountain biking and e-mountain biking

    Beginner
For those wishing to discover mountain biking, enduro, or "All Mountain" riding, and who have little or no experience mountain biking in the mountains. You want to learn the essential technical skills for both descending and climbing on rideable trails.
    Intermediate
For occasional mountain bikers. You are comfortable shifting gears and modulating your braking, and you can clear obstacles by unweighting the bike. You will ride on 4x4 tracks that offer a gradual progression, though you may encounter the occasional steep section. Daily elevation gain is approximately 400 to 600 meters.
    Confirmed
For mountain bikers who are already enthusiasts with some riding experience. You have mastered gear shifting and braking control, and are able to clear obstacles by unweighting the bike, as well as ride up or down short, steep sections. Ideal for riders looking to improve their descending skills on singletrack trails that are rarely very steep but sometimes technical (rocks, roots, etc.) without being exposed, featuring daily elevation gains of 600 to 1,000 meters.
    Advanced
For mountain bikers who are already skilled descenders and confident in their technique. You are capable of navigating switchbacks, riding along off-camber trails without hesitation, controlling your braking, and clearing small obstacles (such as roots, rocks, and steps). The long, sustained descents—which increase in difficulty throughout the week—are sometimes steep, often technical, and occasionally exposed, though rarely dangerous. Expect daily elevation gains of between 800m and 1,400m.
    Expert
For experts and experienced, regular riders. You are capable of navigating switchbacks and off-camber trails, controlling your braking, and clearing obstacles such as roots, rocks, and steps. The descents are long and sustained—often steep, technical, and sometimes exposed. You are looking to challenge yourself with daily elevation changes of 1,400 to 2,000 meters.

In a few words

The Vercors des 4 Montagnes: a vibrant and inhabited natural area, blessed with abundant nature, nestled between the Drôme and Isère departments. It is also home to the largest Regional Natural Park in France, and one of the oldest. With an average altitude ranging from 1,000 to 1,400 meters and a temperate climate that is neither too hot nor too cold, this verdant mountain range offers a truly pleasant experience. The air is crisp, and the flora and fauna are abundant. The Vercors has preserved its lively character thanks to a diversified and increasingly dynamic agricultural sector. Forestry remains important, and the large farms with their crenellated roofs produce honey, meat, milk, and cheese, notably the famous Bleu du Vercors, which has Protected Designation of Origin status. The small villages in this part of the Vercors in Isère have maintained their vitality and are delighted to welcome you. Local hotels will prepare gourmet specialties for you each evening using regional products. During your walks, you can discover local farms. Cycling, especially e-mountain biking (electric mountain biking), is the best way to explore this magnificent mid-mountain region of Isère. The elevation changes become a game, offering a feeling of freedom and amazing fitness! You'll be fully available to enjoy the breathtaking scenery and take a detour to the gourmet farms that dot your route. Treat yourself! You can also opt for a hybrid/mountain bike option if you're more athletic, or combine the two to ride with friends who may not be at the same level.

The route is consistently hilly, with 200 to 800 meters of elevation gain each day. Expect 20 to 40 km of cycling per day, on quiet country roads, paths, and a gravel greenway. There are no particular technical difficulties.

Note

It is possible to book additional nights at the beginning or end of your stay (or along the way).

We recommend extending your stay in Autrans by an extra night. This will allow you to enjoy this additional day on the Vercors plateau with a leisurely mountain bike loop in the Autrans-Méaudre area. You can adjust the difficulty level to suit your preferences. We also suggest exploring the Gève plateau, a renowned cross-country skiing spot located above the village. Most of the trails are also marked for mountain biking.

The route is between 30 and 50 km, with a varied profile, more or less easy, using forest tracks, small roads and/or cross-country ski/mountain bike trails.

The overall organization of this trip was excellent. It was very comfortable to be able to relax and enjoy the experience without having to worry about hotel reservations or luggage transport. However, the mountain biking route seemed a bit too easy. More technically challenging options could be offered.

A very good, well-organized trip with beautiful trails throughout the northeast sector of the Vercors. You almost never ride the same route twice. Plan for extra time to make for full/sporty days (we brought our own non-electric mountain bikes). We had to push our bikes a few times due to rocks and steep sections, but nothing too difficult. The tour operator and Decathlon Travels were available and responded quickly to our questions and requests. The hotels were good quality (ranging from functional/clean to almost 4-star) and well-located, with a swimming pool and a three-course meal in the evening with half-board.

A great 5-day holiday! The Vercors is a fantastic mountain biking destination, but I found the €1560 price tag a bit steep. The hotels were nice, but two out of three had no air conditioning, making it impossible to sleep. The road book was inaccurate, very difficult to read, and extremely small; it was impossible to enlarge it. When it gave you a route to the right, the voiceover said the opposite. Luckily, we had a printed copy of the road book. It's also a shame the routes were so short. The value for money isn't fair.
