In a few words

The GR20 is considered the most beautiful trek and long-distance hiking trail in the world . It is the most sought-after trail for long-distance hiking enthusiasts. The GR20 in Corsica is a mountain hike that requires excellent physical condition and the ability to walk on rough terrain. It is generally divided into 16 stages, which can be split into two parts. The southern section is considered more accessible than the steeper northern section. We have decided to make this legendary route more accessible by offering an itinerary better suited to people who are unable to undertake hikes of more than 6 hours. The route has been restructured, the stages have been reorganized, and we are organizing transfers to bypass the more challenging sections . From Bavella to Vizzavona, throughout its 80 kilometers, the GR20 South crosses the Aiguilles de Bavella, the Incudina and Renoso massifs, winds through the high altitude plateau of Cuscione, and the forests of Ghisoni and Vizzavona.

The expert's opinion

Numerous steep climbs and off-trail sections along ridges on slabs and rocks. The main difficulty lies in the length of some stages and the nature of the terrain. Only one section is equipped with a handrail at Bavella.

This trip is reserved exclusively for people in good physical condition who already have experience with multi-day treks and all that this entails (determination, a taste for effort, the ability to live in a group, and a willingness to forgo usual comforts...).

The GR20 is becoming increasingly popular, but it's crucial to remember that it remains the most challenging trek in Europe . Forgetting this would be setting yourself up for failure from the outset, or even putting yourself in danger. Don't overestimate your abilities; do your research and prepare your trip properly!

If your physical or technical level is deemed insufficient, for your safety as well as for the well-being and cohesion of the group, our guides would be forced to ask you to interrupt your GR20 trek. Furthermore, if your personal equipment is not suitable for high-mountain trekking (see our equipment list), and for obvious safety reasons, we would be unable to accept you at the start of the trip.

This was my first trip with you. It was very good, except I asked the staff if they snored at night because it was impossible to sleep in the dormitories.

Overall, the trip went well. However, there's a significant lack of detail in the trip description; be sure to check with local agencies regarding the number of kilometers/elevation gain and the level of physical exertion required. For me, the expected pace was far too slow. Also, be sure to inquire about the average age of the group; mine was around 55-60 years old. On the other hand, the guide was excellent. Keep in mind that the entire GR trail isn't covered; there are two taxi transfers and some detours off the GR. But the off-trail hikes are magnificent and much quieter. Expect 12-person dormitories, water that isn't always hot, unreliable cell service, limited food variety, few fruits and vegetables, and often pasta and rice. Therefore, I wouldn't recommend this trip given my expectations. However, if you're looking for a moderate level of hiking, good organization (taxi, baggage transfers), and a desire to venture off the GR, then I would recommend it.

Hello Mathilde,

Thank you so much for this incredibly detailed and constructive feedback! We're delighted that you enjoyed the guide and the beauty of the off-trail variations.

We completely understand your point: this trip was specifically designed as an "accessible and comfortable" version of the GR20 (bag carrying, transfers, moderate pace), which explains the difference with your expectations as a seasoned hiker. Regarding the dormitories and meals, that's the reality of the Corsican high mountains and their complex supply logistics for mountain huts.

Your comment about the clarity of the information is very valid: we will check our technical sheet to better specify the profile of the stay (km, D+, pace) so that everyone can find what suits them.

Thank you again for your honesty and see you soon on other trails!

Good day,

Gwen

A great hiking suggestion in Corsica around the GR20 South. We're not following the official route, which is all the better because it allows us to discover some very beautiful landscapes with far fewer people on the trails.

Level 3 stay allowing for a very safe approach to the GR20, supervised by an experienced guide who ensures proper weather management. Gîtes and sheepfolds offer dormitories and/or rooms for 4 to 12 mixed groups. However, breakfasts and lunches are very basic and need improvement.
