In a few words

Our most comprehensive trip to discover all aspects of this hiker's paradise! This is a truly unique hike that will satisfy even the most demanding among you. We begin on the island's east coast, traversing ochre and red rocks in the middle of the ocean. We continue north with hikes through forests, punctuated by swims, exceptional viewpoints, and visits to villages, before descending to the laid-back lifestyle of the south coast. We'll discover the São Lourenço peninsula upon arrival, then head north between Machico, Porto da Cruz, and the São Roque do Faial region. We'll then embark on a spectacular crossing of the famous Picos de Europa mountains before immersing you in the wild Boaventura Valley and the high levadas (irrigation channels) to Encumeada. After a cultural and culinary stop in Funchal, we cross the Boca do Cerro pass to reach the natural pools of Porto Moniz and the mythical Fanal forest. We continue on the Paul da Serra plateau with the Rabaçal waterfalls, then finish in style with the paved descent to the port of Paul do Mar from Fajã da Ovelha, before a final return to Funchal.

The highlights

  • An in-depth exploration of all aspects of the island
  • A variety of hikes through mountains, along the coast, and through lush forests.

The flower festival in Madeira will take place from April 29 to May 30, 2027.
Every year, after Easter, the Madeira Flower Festival celebrates the arrival of spring. It is a tribute to the island's magnificent flowers.
During this dazzling festival, Funchal fills with allegorical floats decorated with thousands of flowers. Processions, parades, concerts, performances by folk groups—the city lives to the rhythm of this colorful and exuberant celebration.

Practical information

Specific formalities

Specifics

Before your departure, check with the embassy or consulate regarding the entry and stay requirements for your destination country. You can also find this information on the France Diplomatie website ( https://www.diplomatie.gouv.fr/fr/dossiers-pays/ ).

In the case of flights with stopovers operated by different airlines, also check the entry requirements of the countries you are transiting through.

It is your responsibility to ensure you are in compliance, particularly regarding the validity of your identity documents (for example, some countries require your passport to be valid for at least six months after your return) , visa requirements, necessary vaccinations, and health recommendations. And don't forget to consider any customs restrictions and other potential requirements of your destination or transit country.

ℹ️ Information may change up to the departure date, remember to regularly check official websites.

Equipment

Equipment to bring

  • Walking stick(s).
  • Plastic bags for waterproofing your belongings, cameras and clothes.
  • Rain cape and rain pants.
  • Backpack protector.
  • Keeping a notebook and journal is a popular activity among trekkers.

You can also travel with your technical sheet where we have given special space for your favorites, travel stories or anecdotes.

  • A toiletry bag.
  • Sunscreen cream (face and lips).
  • Headlamp, with spare batteries and bulbs.
  • A water bottle of at least 1 litre, lightweight and insulated, plates and cutlery for the picnic.

  • Rain cape.
  • Hat.
  • Swimsuit.
  • Bath towel.
