    After collecting your van from our agency, a 1 minute walk from Dax train station, take the road towards Cazaux, through the pine forests and the great lakes of the Landes.

    Once you arrive at the local's house, take advantage of this first quiet time to set up camp and to stroll around Lake Cazaux.

    A welcome dinner is planned for Sunday evening to get to know the guides and other participants of the trip.

I did the surf trip solo, and it turned into an unforgettable experience thanks to the wonderful people I met. Kevin and Noémie, the organizers, became friends. They were incredibly generous and kind. Having never surfed before, the various lessons offered by the instructors at the surf schools gave me the necessary skills to surf independently. The electric vans are superbly equipped and a pleasure to drive. The itinerary is well-planned, avoiding the need to charge at paid stations. The free charging points at campsites can be sufficient. If you're traveling as a couple who don't know each other, you can alternate between sleeping in the van and the very spacious rooftop tent. Despite a rainy week, most of the activities and surf lessons were able to go ahead. Being rather sensitive to the cold, the wetsuits provided excellent protection.

However, I didn't find the surfing lessons very comprehensive for an introductory course. I expected to receive proper theoretical instruction before the practical part, at least on the first day. The experience with the Family Van - Decathlon Travel's partner agency - was a great success.

I opted for a surf and van trip on the west coast for a week; which I can only recommend.

The program was well-structured, combining wild exploration, surf spots and lessons, pleasant campsites, and interesting towns and villages where surfing is a way of life. What's more, I found a great group, just the right size, and the optional excursions were well-suited to compensate for bad weather or add some variety to the trip (like the wine tasting at a vineyard).

A small adjustment to the program would allow us to drive less and make better use of the area that has the most interest, without rushing too much: from Lacanau ocean (or Lège Cap Ferret) to Hendaye.

If, like us, you don't have the best conditions for learning to surf (storms), the rest of the stay remains enjoyable.

One minor drawback: it's a shame that Decathlon Travel stays don't earn loyalty points.
