Security

Our itineraries are designed to respect acclimatization periods as much as possible, taking into account geographical constraints and/or the duration of the trip. Our teams also receive regular training in altitude safety. Our local guides are experts at organizing this acclimatization process.

INFORMATION ON SAFETY DURING YOUR TRIP AND ACUTE MOUNTAIN SICKNESS

Information on Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS): During your trip, you will be spending several days at altitudes above 3,500 meters. Acute Mountain Sickness is a sign of incomplete acclimatization to the altitude and most often appears above 3,500 meters. Above this altitude, 50% of people experience mild AMS. Headaches, insomnia, loss of appetite, and nausea are the most common symptoms. The best and only prevention is acclimatization: do not ascend too quickly, avoid strenuous activity at the beginning of your trip, and drink plenty of fluids.

Note

Important information regarding the progress of the trip

  1. High altitude : The majority of the route takes place at altitudes above 4,000 meters. This characteristic requires particular attention to acclimatization and physical exertion.
  2. Variable walking times : The walking times indicated are estimates. They may vary depending on weather conditions, the fitness level of the participants and especially their gradual acclimatization to the altitude.
  3. Decisions related to climbs : To guarantee the safety of the group, the supervising guide remains the sole judge of the feasibility of the climbs, whether for the whole group or certain participants.
  4. Flexible itinerary : Unforeseen local circumstances – transport delays, traditional festivals, site closures, weather conditions – may necessitate adjustments to the program on-site. These adaptations are made in the best interest of the participants to preserve the travel experience as much as possible.
  5. Bolivian social context : Bolivia can experience occasional social unrest, including road blockades by the population. These are generally non-violent but can disrupt some journeys. Our experienced and responsive local team will adapt the itinerary if necessary, prioritizing your safety and the smooth continuation of your trip.
