Snowshoeing and gastronomy holiday in the French Alps

The snowshoeing adventure begins today in Prapic, the last village in the valley before it is cut off by steep mountains and winter snow. With only a handful of year-round residents, Prapic is a true high-altitude hamlet, often isolated by avalanches during the colder months. Its traditional stone houses, narrow lanes, and timeless setting offer a rare glimpse into authentic mountain life.

From this peaceful starting point, you'll follow a typical horseshoe-shaped glacial valley that winds deep into the heart of the Écrins National Park, surrounded by majestic peaks and pristine snow-covered landscapes. Your guide will adapt the route according to the snow conditions—whether leading you to a panoramic plateau or following the river at the valley floor. Along the way, you'll discover the Saut du Laire, a frozen waterfall steeped in local legends, and pass a solitary mountain chapel, a silent witness to the valley's rich spiritual tradition. An immersive and sublime day in one of the most remote and unspoiled corners of the Alps in winter.

Today, we're heading to the summit of La Palastre (2278 m) for a snowshoeing adventure that's as exhilarating as it is spectacular. The ascent begins gently through tranquil forests and open snowfields, before gaining altitude and panoramic views. As you progress, the scenery changes: frozen streams, craggy rocks, and breathtaking vistas of the Champsaur valley unfold before you.

Upon reaching the pass, you can enjoy a well-deserved picnic break, overlooking the vast winter landscape. A short climb then leads to the summit, where a breathtaking panorama unfolds, encompassing the peaks of the Écrins massif and the ridges of the Dévoluy. A true sense of freedom and awe at the altitude.

The descent takes place in a playful atmosphere, enjoying the fresh snow for gliding, jogging, or simply savoring the gentle ride. A memorable day, combining sporting challenge, wild beauty, and the simple pleasure of being in the mountains.

Today is your last day, so you will need to pack your bags and check out of your room before heading out for your final snowshoe hike. You can leave your luggage safely at the farm during the excursion.

We will start from the charming alpine village of Serre-Eyraud (1,373 m), a historic ski village beloved by locals. The trail winds gently through enchanting larch forests, offering peaceful views of the woods and, at times, of the imposing peaks of the Champsaur.

After a steady climb of about 500 meters, you'll reach the rustic Aunt Yvonne's Hut (1,809 m), a cozy mountain refuge with benches and a wood-burning stove, perfect for a comfortable break. For the more adventurous, a short extension leads to a panoramic viewpoint at 1,887 m, offering a spectacular vista of the snow-covered valley. This 8 km loop trail combines adventure and tranquility, a true hidden gem for winter explorers.

At the end of the day, we will return to the farm to collect your luggage, then your guide will drive you to Gap by 5pm, so that you can catch the evening train or bus to Marseille or your next destination.
