This active trip is designed to teach you the fundamentals of life on board and help you master the marine environment, all within the magnificent setting of the Mediterranean coastline.
Under the expert guidance of your instructor, you will learn sailing techniques and how to read a nautical chart . From preparing the boat to making precise adjustments for different points of sail, every maneuver becomes a learning opportunity: maintaining a course, changing tack, or managing propulsion under power and sail. Understanding tides and essential onboard safety protocols will also be central to your learning progression.
Drifting with the winds, your course will lead you towards the spectacular Calanques of Marseille or the unspoiled landscapes of the Porquerolles islands . This maritime escape perfectly combines technical training, awareness of the local ecosystem, regular swimming , and shore excursions during stopovers. Lionel has always been passionate about watersports: he took his first tacks on a dinghy at the age of 5!
It was quite natural that he obtained his Federal Instructor qualification for habitable boats at the Glénans sailing school.
Then he continued his career as base manager at the Miramas nautical club, after passing his State Sailing Certificate in Marseille.
In parallel, he competed in Olympic windsurfing (Mistral One Design) at a low international level and then became a PACA league coach in Olympic windsurfing.
Also holding a state diploma in water skiing, he created Water Free Gliss, a school for water skiing, wakeboarding, wake surfing, wake skating... in Saint Laurent du Var.
Then, at 40, he became captain of his own sailboat, a Sun Fast 43, with which he undertook a crossing of the Mediterranean from Bandol, a round-trip transatlantic crossing, punctuated by an unforgettable stay in the Caribbean.

Vincent has been sailing cruises since the age of 10, and racing since he was 15.
First in the English Channel between Cotentin, Brittany, England and Ireland, then in the Mediterranean since the 2000s.
His motivation today: to transmit and share his passion for sailing and the sea, during sailing discovery days, sailing courses, or Mediterranean cruises.
Having recently retired, he finally finds the time to turn his passion into his profession.

The crew will be welcomed in the morning at the port and the boat will be presented over coffee.
After an introduction to the boat, the crew and a safety briefing, we prepare the sailboat together for departure: putting away equipment, discovering how the boat works and first notions of life on board.
As soon as you leave the port, it's time to set sail. This introductory sailing course allows you to gradually discover the basics of cruising:
- getting to grips with the boat,
- discovery of gaits,
- sail adjustment,
- steering
- Travel and safety on board.
Depending on the weather conditions, we set our course:
- towards the calanques of Cassis and Marseille,
- or towards the islands of Hyères and Porquerolles.
Lunch break at anchor with the possibility of swimming in a sheltered cove or bay.
At the end of the day, we'll settle in for the night at anchor or in the port. Enjoy our first sunset at sea and a convivial dinner on board.
Day 1 -
Coastal navigation and crew life

After breakfast on board, we resume sailing, giving more time to practice.
The interns actively participate:
- to the maneuvers,
- to changes of tack,
- to the handling of the sailboat,
- adjusting the sails according to the wind.
This day also provides an opportunity to learn the basics of navigation:
- reading nautical charts
- signage,
- security,
- weather report,
- orientation relative to the wind.
Sailing along the Mediterranean coast with exploration of new anchorages and discovery of the iconic landscapes of the calanques or the Var islands.
Evening on board in a cruise atmosphere, sharing of onboard tasks and night at anchor or in port.
Day 2 -
Initial autonomy

This third day allows one to gradually gain autonomy.
The interns are taking more initiative:
- preparation for departures,
- organization of maneuvers,
- participation in navigation and trajectory selection.
Work on:

- gybes,
- the boat's balance,
- crew coordination.
Depending on the conditions, more sustained navigation with the possibility of sailing under spinnaker or longer sailing durations between two stopovers.
Anchoring in a wild bay or stopping over in a typical Mediterranean port.

Cruising and anchoring

The cruise continues at the pace of the wind and the weather.
This day focuses on:
- anticipation,
- observation of the body of water,
- sail settings,
- route management.
The trainees also discover:

- managing life on board over several days.
Free time available on land to explore coastal villages, beaches or coastal paths.
Day 4 -
Active navigation and security

After several days on board, everyone gradually finds their place in the crew and naturally participates in the running of the boat.
This day is dedicated to in-depth study:

Sailing to new anchorages with swimming and a convivial evening on board.
Day 5 -

Depending on the weather, this day can be devoted to a longer sailing trip in order to discover the organization of a real coastal cruise.
The interns participate in:
- to the preparation of the road,
- upon reading the weather forecast,
- to navigation choices,
- to the organization of the shifts.
Objective: to gain confidence and understand the overall functioning of a habitable sailboat during cruising.
Last evening on board in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Return to port and debriefing

Final sail to the port of arrival.
This final day allows us to review the concepts covered during the week:
- boat preparation
- maneuvers,
- navigation,
- security,
- life in a crew.
Group debriefing at the end of the course, personalized progress assessment and possible validation of FFVoile levels according to the skills acquired.
This introductory sailing course is designed to allow everyone to discover cruising in the Mediterranean, progress technically and experience a true human adventure in one of the most beautiful sailing areas in France.

The itinerary can be adapted depending on weather conditions, sea state, and the crew's preferences. Subject to availability, you will be accompanied by one of the instructors and will sail on one of the boats described in your trip itinerary.
