Today, you'll hike a circular trail around Mount Madari , located in the Pitsilia region, in the heart of the Troodos Mountains . This route is among the top 5 hikes in Cyprus . The 12km (or 13km including the round trip to the watchtower ) trail is of moderate difficulty , without any very steep ascents or descents.
Throughout the walk, you'll enjoy unobstructed views of different regions of the island. To the south , Morphou Bay and the Pentadactylos mountain range come into view, while to the north, the village of Kyperounta and the summit of Troodos Mountains are revealed. On a clear day, you can also see the village of Spilia to the west.
The hike winds through diverse vegetation, including golden oaks , wild roses , mastic bushes , junipers , pines , strawberry trees , rockroses , and sage . Cedars , plane trees , and ferns can also be seen in places. The trail also passes near rock formations characteristic of the region.
This hike is enjoyable all year round , with snow appearing only very rarely in winter. Shorter versions exist: a linear route of 7km (with 600m of ascent and 550m of descent , taxi transfer required) or an easier loop of 8.5km with 450m of elevation gain , part of which is on paved road .
