The expert's opinion

This trip is perfect for you if you're already an experienced hiker in good physical condition and able to endure long periods of exertion! The hikes take place on mountain trails with elevation gains and losses of 700 to 1200 meters, without any particular technical difficulties. Expect to hike for approximately 6 to 7 hours per day.

Each day you can choose the difficulty level of the route. The sporty route has a greater elevation gain. It may also include more technical or exposed sections.

The level corresponds to an average cumulative elevation gain over the entire week. We also use other factors such as luggage carrying, commitment, network availability, and terrain type to refine the level.

During peak season, an inter-village shuttle system can save you some time and elevation gain on the stages, making them a little easier.

If you take your own measurements, it is not uncommon to find discrepancies with our description.

Hiking in Queyras is great for a first mountain experience. July is a rather hot month and too crowded to see animals.

We had a magical week hiking in the Queyras. It was almost perfect in every way. The weather was ideal (last week of July), the route easy to follow despite the difficulty of the hike (the 4-boot rating is well deserved!), and the accommodations for the six nights were impeccable: spotlessly clean. The vast majority of meals were delicious, healthy, and sufficiently filling – no need to pack snacks or energy bars. The packing list proved very useful, especially for amateur hikers like us who tend to overpack. We opted for a private room and packed lunches, and found both choices to be well worth the cost. In fact, I found the overall value for money excellent. We are now looking at the other hikes offered, with a view to doing one as a family (four of us) next year, and not just as a couple. In short, I have absolutely nothing to criticize: everything was truly magical.
