This exceptional hike combines the beauty of wild mountains with Greek mythology and history, following in the footsteps of ancient pilgrims who reached the sanctuary of Delphi from the northern slopes of Mount Parnassus .
Located just a 3-hour drive from Athens , Mount Parnassus is home to one of the major archaeological sites of ancient Greece , dedicated to the god Apollo . The E4 European long-distance path , linking Portugal to Cyprus, crosses the mountain following this ancient sacred route . According to ancient beliefs, the forests of Parnassus were also the domain of nymphs and the god Pan .
Today, the massif combines protected nature and diverse landscapes : fir and juniper forests on the northern slopes, a Mediterranean atmosphere as you descend towards the south. The panoramas open onto the famous olive grove of Delphi , a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Gulf of Corinth .
This 6-day itinerary, combining sections of trails 22 and E4 , starts in the village of Eptalofos and ends on the seafront in Itea , for a complete immersion in walking , heritage and mythical landscapes .
