In a few words

This winter trip to Norway invites you to discover the Lofoten Islands as the polar night ends. Between January and April, far from the hustle and bustle of summer, this archipelago comes alive to the age-old rhythm of fishing: cod abound in crystal-clear waters, the Northern Lights dance across the sky, while snow blankets the mountains plunging into the sea. It's the perfect season to strap on your snowshoes and explore breathtaking landscapes bathed in a unique light. Each day, our hikes through fjords and over peaks will lead you to the most spectacular panoramas of the Lofoten Islands. In the evening, if luck is on your side, the sky blazes with the Northern Lights, offering a magical and fleeting spectacle. A night in a mountain refuge, perched overlooking the fjords, will complete this adventure between sea and peaks, in the heart of the Scandinavian Far North.

The highlights

  • The magic of the Lofoten Islands, far from the summer crowds
  • An exclusive Nordic adventure, accompanied by an expert and passionate guide.
  • An unforgettable night in a mountain refuge

The expert's opinion

Circuit characteristics

The trip includes 4 to 6 hours of activity per day, without any major technical difficulties. However, the Icelandic environment can be demanding (cold, wind, rain, snow), requiring a good capacity for adaptation.

Physical preparation

Good physical condition is recommended. Regular endurance exercise and the habit of walking moderate to long distances, with elevation changes, are ideal.

Physical activity during the stay:

The route does not present any major difficulties, with moderate elevation changes (maximum 600 m of ascent).

However, conditions can vary at this time of year: rain, snow, or strong winds can make some stages more challenging. Routes will be adjusted according to the weather and terrain.

The selected trails are suitable for hikers with regular experience in mid-mountain terrain. Some sections may be steep, and the weather conditions can influence the intensity of the days.

Depending on the snow conditions, we will alternate between traditional walking and snowshoeing. Fun and accessible, snowshoeing requires no prior experience and is easily discovered on the trail.

Spirit of the stay

Small group trip, participatory and friendly. Everyone contributes to the collective life (meals, logistics), promoting mutual support, solidarity and good humor.

Suitable for ages 14 and up.

This is the beginning of our Nordic adventure!

Flight to northern Norway, where we land in Evenes.

Depending on our arrival time, we will reach the hotel via a Flybus shuttle or a taxi. We will then check into our rooms and settle in for the night.

In the late afternoon, we met our guide and the other travelers: first conversations, first smiles. The guide outlined the program ahead, including mountain peaks, fjords, Arctic beaches, and perhaps the Northern Lights…

A first evening in peace and quiet, under the skies of the Arctic Circle, to lay the foundations for this week unlike any other.

    Day 1

Note

If you wish to include optional activities in your program, remember to mention it when booking your trip.

For those who do not wish to participate, these times will be devoted to discovering the surroundings in the company of the guide (snowshoeing, village visit), or to moments of freedom.

This itinerary is provided as an indication: depending on weather and operational conditions, your tour guide may modify the itinerary day by day, for your safety and that of the group or for organizational reasons.

The Northern Lights are spectacular but unpredictable phenomena. They depend primarily on solar activity and are only visible when the sky is sufficiently clear.

The observation of the Northern Lights therefore remains the result of random parameters that we cannot control and for this reason, we cannot guarantee their observation 100%.

In Norway, our travel will mainly be in private vehicles adapted to the size of the group.

For some journeys we used local transport.

Day 7: 3.5 hours sailing aboard the Hurtigruten. A typical experience to admire the coastline. In case of unavailability, an equivalent comfortable transfer will be provided.

Your flight with us

Your e-ticket will be available in your customer account 8 to 10 days before departure. Your login details and password will be sent to you upon registration.

To reach Norway, we mainly work with two regular airlines, via Oslo: SAS and Norwegian.

SAS: 1 checked bag of 23 kg + 1 hand bag included per person.

Norwegian: 1 checked bag of 20 kg + 1 hand bag included per person.

Note: Meals and drinks are not included on board and are available for purchase.

This information is provided for guidance purposes only and will be confirmed at the time of booking.

New legislation in progress

New Norwegian legislation strictly regulating passenger transport no longer allows our guides to drive the minibuses used for transfers. We therefore use external providers to ensure travel complies with local regulations and guarantees a high level of safety, although with less flexibility. Transfer: 9 or 16-seater minibus.

A fantastic experience. The guide was super friendly. He led us well (hikes and visits) and we enjoyed his cooking. The group of participants (aged between approximately 30 and 60) worked well together and the atmosphere was perfect. The small daily tasks (helping prepare meals, washing dishes, etc.) were naturally divided among the participants. The equipment provided was of good quality (snowshoes, poles, crampons). Some accommodations are well-equipped. However, be prepared for some very basic accommodations in places (e.g., mountain lodges: no electricity or running water), which is part of the charm and atmosphere of the trip, but may not be to everyone's liking.

I wanted a sporty trip, but the skill levels weren't respected: I booked a level 3 (advanced) trip, but 4 out of the 6 people in my group weren't fit enough, and certainly didn't have the motivation! Our guide had to adapt, and the pace and duration of the hikes were more like a level 2, which was disappointing. Decathlon should emphasize the importance of skill levels more and definitely shouldn't send someone who requested a level 2 trip to a level 3 to fill out the groups!

Hello Odile,

We are sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations. Level 3 of this trip does indeed correspond to an advanced level, and our advisors strive to guide each traveler as effectively as possible. Despite these precautions, it can happen that a group has a mixed skill level. According to our partner, the guide had to adjust the pace but maintained the planned distances, even adding a hike to accommodate the more athletic participants.

We take your feedback into account to further improve our trips and hope to see you again soon on another adventure.

Trip late February/early March 2024. I was able to see the Northern Lights, although they weren't as bright as in the photos (or those seen by the group the following week)! Be sure to book your options in advance with the agency. I thought it was the first time I'd been there, but not at all, and I almost missed kayaking! The guide was fantastic, very attentive, and a superb cook! We thoroughly enjoyed the local specialties. Thanks again, Clément!

A truly unique and refreshing trip, with beautiful scenery despite the unpredictable weather. The guide was very friendly and attentive to the group. I have wonderful memories of it. I was lucky enough to see the Northern Lights. The only downside was the car journeys and the time-consuming logistics of meal preparation.
