Horseback safari in the Sine Saloum region of Senegal

After a hearty breakfast to kick off our first day of horseback riding in Senegal, we get acquainted with the horses at the farm. We mount and familiarize ourselves with our mounts. After lunch, we set off on horseback through the acacia forest of Nianing and the surrounding villages. We arrive in the late afternoon at Thiossane in Mbodiène. Dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast overlooking the lagoon, we set off on a horseback ride. The morning unfolds between the sea and the lagoon, with access to prime spots for observing the many birds that rest there. We then have lunch at the foot of a baobab tree, after leaving the Mbodiene lagoon. Following a siesta, we ride through the mangroves to Shell Island. The horses are left near the island, and the visit is done on foot. After remounting, we return to our accommodation. Dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast, we ride towards the Tanns and the mangroves, passing through the "secret passage" between the mangrove trees. Weather and tides permitting, we may even swim across with the horses. We'll have lunch in the shade of a tree in the Palmarin Reserve. In the afternoon, we'll explore the salt flats. Our horseback riding trip in Senegal will take us to the beach at the Palmarin Ecolodge, where we'll stay for two nights.

We begin our day on horseback with an al fresco breakfast at the ecolodge. We then set off on horseback for a ride to Djifer Point. Lunch will be at the ecolodge, with time for a well-deserved nap or relaxation. Weather permitting, we may then have the opportunity to swim with the horses in the sea. To end the day, we board a dugout canoe for a trip through the Bolongs (mangrove channels).

After reuniting with our horses, we begin our day with long gallops along the beach. We then ride through the salt flats and bush villages to better discover the immersive landscapes of Senegal. After four hours in the saddle, we have lunch in the palm grove and rest after our morning ride. We then head to the Simal ecolodge, located on the edge of the lagoon amidst lush vegetation. The rest of the day is free. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

For our final day of horseback riding in Senegal, after a hearty breakfast, we set off through the bush towards our next destination. Vast landscapes await us, offering opportunities for long gallops and a profound sense of freedom. We'll pass through villages at a walking pace, out of respect for the inhabitants and to better observe the country's traditions and culture. We'll have lunch in Ndofane, followed by a well-deserved moment of relaxation. The afternoon will take us into the Balabougou forest, where we'll enjoy some refreshing shade. We'll end our day by returning to the farm for dinner and an overnight stay.

A day full of emotion to end our stay. After a traditional breakfast, we set off to visit the weekly market in Sandiara, where we can discover horses, sheep, goats, zebus with magnificent horns, vegetables, fruits, textiles, and more. We can buy souvenirs and local products for our return to France. Our afternoon is dedicated to a drive through the Bandia Reserve, where we can encounter Africa's large mammals (elephant, giraffe, buffalo, leopard, rhinoceros) and over 120 species of birds. Guided by a wildlife specialist, we have the incredible opportunity to end our trip with a truly iconic African experience!
