Horseback riding in Lozère, from the Margeride to Mont Lozère

Starting from Lake Naussac, perched at an altitude of 1000m, the first day immerses you in the wide-open spaces of the Margeride, one of the four natural regions of Lozère. The route alternates between forest tracks and more open paths, offering a beautiful introduction to the wild landscapes of this granite plateau. The stage takes you to Laubert, near the village of Châteauneuf-de-Randon, known for its history linked to Bertrand Du Guesclin, who led a famous siege there during the Hundred Years' War. Accommodation is in a gîte (rural guesthouse), with shared rooms and meals served at the communal table for dinner and breakfast.

This second stage marks the entry into a new natural region: the Cévennes, another contrasting facet of Lozère. Leaving the Margeride region, you head towards Bagnols-les-Bains, an isolated village situated at an altitude of 1,042 meters, west of Mont Lozère. The route gradually leads you into the Cévennes National Park, renowned for its rich landscapes and preserved biodiversity. Upon arrival, you'll settle into a gîte (rural guesthouse), in shared rooms depending on availability, and enjoy a meal at the communal table to extend the evening in a convivial atmosphere.

Today's route takes you into the heart of the Cévennes National Park, within a Natura 2000 protected area, for a gradual ascent towards Mont Lozère. In the late afternoon, you reach the heights of this granite massif, the highest point in the department at 1699m. Riding across these open plateaus, you'll enjoy sweeping panoramas of still wild and unspoiled landscapes. The day concludes in a secluded and welcoming gîte, a perfect place to disconnect and truly breathe in the fresh mountain air.

Head towards Chasseradès, a hamlet nestled at 1482m altitude in the commune of Mont Lozère et Goulet, located on the route of the legendary Stevenson Trail. The stage begins a gradual descent towards the Margeride region, offering a striking contrast between the granite landscapes of Mont Lozère and the more wooded landscapes of the plateau. Along the way, the scenery changes, revealing the full natural diversity of the Lozère. Upon arrival, check into a hotel, in shared rooms, with dinner provided to gently conclude this day of transition.

For this final stage, you return to the Margeride region, completing your route in the heart of Lozère. The ascent is gentle, winding through familiar landscapes, between coniferous forests and high-altitude meadows, until you reach the small village of Palhères. The arrival marks the end of the journey, in a peaceful, rural setting. Dinner is at a restaurant, followed by an overnight stay in a shared room at the inn, providing an opportunity to share one last convivial moment celebrating this sporting adventure.
