Horseback riding in Lozère, an immersion in unknown territory

This first day begins with a beautiful immersion in nature, between forest tracks and wild paths around Lake Naussac. You'll follow its most pristine shoreline, where the equestrian center is located, before heading towards the ruins of Montauroux Castle, a former guard post from the Hundred Years' War. The route then takes you to Grandrieu, where you'll set up camp at Camping du Vieux Moulin. You can enjoy a hot shower on site before spending the night either in the dormitory converted into a semi-trailer or in a tent. The day will end with a convivial pizza evening around the campfire or under the stars.

Head towards Saugues, on the edge of the Haute-Loire region, crossing the open landscapes of the Gévaudan. You'll pass through the villages of Thoras and Esplantas, between high-altitude meadows and quiet country lanes. Upon arrival, you'll discover Saugues, once a fortified town and now known for its Fantastic Beast Museum, which recounts the remarkable story of this mysterious creature that claimed over 100 victims in the 18th century. You'll spend the night in a hostel and share a meal in the village, enjoying a simple, local atmosphere.

The early morning is free, giving you the opportunity to stroll through Saugues or visit the Fantastic Beast Museum (entrance fee €6, payable on site). Late morning, you'll get back in the saddle and join the Way of St. James (Camino de Santiago), riding along an iconic section. Along the way, you'll enjoy a remarkable panorama of the Domaine du Sauvage, a vast plateau reminiscent of a summer pasture. Back in Lozère, you'll reach the Gîte des Faux de Saint-Alban, a welcoming guesthouse located on the GR de Pays long-distance hiking trail, where you'll spend the night and share an evening meal in a friendly atmosphere.

Following the GR4 trail, you continue your journey through the Margeride mountain range, a vast territory of forests, moors, and summer pastures. You will pass several iconic viewpoints: the Baraque des Bouviers (Shepherds' Hut), the Col de la Croix de Bor (Croix de Bor Pass), and then the Col des 3 Sœurs (Three Sisters Pass), each offering sweeping views of the surrounding landscape. At the end of the day, you will arrive at the Gîte du Giraldès, a warm and picturesque guesthouse, where you will be welcomed with a communal meal. The shared rooms provide a convivial and relaxing atmosphere to end the day.

For this final day, you'll follow quiet, secluded paths, often winding through the heart of cattle pastures, in a peaceful and authentic atmosphere. The route passes through a series of typical Lozère villages, where time seems to stand still. As you continue, your horses will settle back into their usual rhythm: the stables are drawing near, and they sense it. The adventure is coming to an end, in a still unspoiled and simple setting.

After breakfast, a transfer is provided to Langogne train station for participants traveling by train. For those with more time, a visit to the Langogne market is possible, ideal for strolling and discovering local produce. The course ends at 10:00 AM, marking the end of this equestrian adventure in the Margeride region.
