In a few words

After the first stage in France, the Way of St. James leaves the Alpine foothills and Savoyard vineyards to reach the Pilat Mountains. Between these two massifs, the route descends into the Dauphiné plain, passing through the Voironnais and Bièvre-Valloire regions. The landscape alternates between cereal-growing valleys and chestnut-covered hills, with gentle changes in elevation. In this part of the Isère department, the landscape is far removed from major urban centers and relatively untouched by tourism; the villages are charming (with houses built of rammed earth or pebbles), and the countryside peaceful. This stage ends on the banks of the Rhône River in Condrieu, at the foot of the Pilat Mountains.

The highlights

  • A varied and interesting hiking trail away from the crowds
  • Discovering the houses of the Dauphiné region
  • Over the years, the possibility of traveling the entire route to St. James has emerged.
