    You arrive in the afternoon in Lons-le-Saunier , the charming capital of the Jura region, nestled between vineyards and lakes. Before settling into your hotel, take some time to explore Place de la Liberté , the vibrant heart of the city, lined with arcades housing shops. Be sure to pay homage to the statue of Rouget de Lisle , author of the Marseillaise, a native son. If time allows, treat yourself to a relaxing moment at the famous saltwater thermal baths or visit the Maison de La Vache qui rit (House of the Laughing Cow ), an iconic symbol of the region. In the evening, you return to your hotel to drop off your belongings. Dinner is provided on-site, except on Sundays when another restaurant will be recommended. Enjoy a peaceful night's sleep so you're ready to begin your hike the next day.
