- BAGGAGE: check the weight with the airlines.
A soft-sided rolling bag, 50 to 70 litres max (no hard-sided suitcases, they won't fit in the trunk of the 4x4!)
Dust cover (if needed)
A small backpack of 10 to 20L that we will take with us during the day, to carry a camera, windbreaker, documents and money, etc...
Ideally, this small backpack should be your carry-on bag: wheeled carry-on suitcases are sometimes refused entry on domestic flights and automatically confiscated.
checked baggage incurs additional charges. And it's not practical on a road trip either.
Small waterproof canvas bags, pouches, for protecting documents, storing small items, organizing...
Please note, plastic bags have been banned since 2019! (with the exception of bags for liquids in cabin baggage and sealed bags from airport shops)
- HYGIENE and HEALTH:
Microfiber bath towel (if you are going camping, staying with locals or swimming, as hotels provide them)
A hanging toiletry bag is practical everywhere!
Lotions and products in small containers (remember that in cabin baggage it's 100ml max in plastic except duty free)
Wet wipes and tissues, or even nasal spray, are always handy against dust.
Soap, in a soap dish
Old pair of glasses (and yes, what if you lose or break your new ones, or lose your contact lenses? You can't see anything!)
Good sunglasses / saline solution or artificial tears for sensitive eyes (dust)
Prescription medications
Mosquito repellent pack: body spray / anti-malarial treatment / bite ointment
Sun protection pack: sunscreen** / sunburn ointment / lip balm / moisturizing cream / hair balm
Shampoo / toothpaste / toothbrush / comb, and everything else we take with us when we leave home!
**Good for the environment: sunscreen with mineral, not chemical, filters, without parabens, dyes, or perfumes—in short, organic—is best (Cosmebio, Nature & Progrès, or BDIH labels). It leaves white streaks, but the coral reefs will thank you!
