After breakfast, meet our guide for the week and get an overview of the program. Transfer to Mount Vesuvius, known as one of the world's most dangerous volcanoes. Ascend the wide track to the crater, where a volcanologist guide will reveal the volcano's secrets. Then transfer to Pompeii, nestled at the foot of Vesuvius. Destroyed during the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD, the site is remarkably well-preserved and offers invaluable insight into ancient Rome. Transfer to Agerola, a village perched above the Amalfi Coast.

This day involves a lot of walking. Starting from Amalfi, we ascend the magnificent "Valley of the Mills." Along the path, bordered by streams and waterfalls, discover the stunning terraced lemon groves and the old paper mill. The trail will lead you to Ravello, a charming village situated 350 meters above sea level. Take time to wander through its narrow streets and visit the sumptuous villas Cimbrone and Rufolo. We then walk down to Amalfi and return by private minibus to Agerola for dinner and overnight stay.

From the heights, you can admire the sublime coastal scenery with its steep cliffs, terraced fields, and charming villages perched on the hillside. Free time to explore Positano, a small town nestled in the mountains, with its colorful houses cascading down to the sea. In the late afternoon, we'll transfer by private minibus back to Agerola.

A THIRTY-YEAR-OLD AND RETIREES: BEWARE OF AGE DIFFERENCES. I signed up for this trip through Decathlon Travel because there were no UCPA registrations for the same destination: Naples and the Amalfi Coast. I found online that, on average, Decathlon Travel participants were between 30 and 50 years old. Imagine my surprise and disappointment when I discovered I was the only young person (36 years old) and that the other participants were between 58 and 71. Even though they were nice, I didn't feel comfortable. I was the only one registered through Decathlon Travel; the other participants had signed up through other agencies. Beyond that, the first hotel in Naples was located on a very noisy street, and breakfast consisted of a plastic plate and cup. Considering the price, one would have expected better. Similarly, the first tourist bus restaurant after Mount Vesuvius was priced down to the last cent. Fortunately, the hostel in San Lazarro was very good. The hikes are beautiful. Procida deserved more exploration and fewer stops.
