In a few words

Head to East Africa for an exclusive immersion in the heart of Uganda. The Rwenzori Mountains , the legendary "Mountains of the Moon", reveal a wild and preserved landscape through an 8-day trek along the famous central route .

Designed for passionate hikers, this challenging route offers a complete escape in one of the continent's most remote regions. The trail traverses an incredible variety of ecosystems: lush rainforest gives way to bamboo forests before opening onto hanging valleys, waterfalls, and alpine landscapes unlike any other in the world. Higher up, the scenery becomes stark and mineral, revealing craggy peaks , high-altitude glaciers , and hidden mountain lakes.

This itinerary incorporates extra days to ensure gradual acclimatization to the altitude. This measured pace optimizes your walking comfort, promotes physical recovery, and maximizes your chances of safely reaching the high passes. A timeless adventure, ideal for hikers seeking authenticity and memorable challenges.

The highlights

  • Better acclimatization, a smoother descent, and a greater chance of success
  • Maximize your chances of reaching the summit with our acclimatization day.
  • A slower descent and additional acclimatization for greater comfort

The expert's opinion

The challenges of the journey:

  1. An extreme terrain: The route extends from 1,600 m to 5,109 m altitude (Margherita peak), crossing five ecological zones, from dense forests to vertical scales, with the major obstacle being deep and omnipresent mud requiring the use of rubber boots.
  2. Technical mountaineering: The last part requires the use of crampons, ice axes, fixed ropes and harnesses to cross equatorial glaciers.
  3. Hostile weather: Mountaineers have to deal with very unstable weather (rain, snow, thick fog).

Required profile:

This demanding expedition requires excellent cardiovascular fitness , great leg strength and strong mental resilience to withstand the cold, humidity and constant elevation changes.
