Adventure in Tanzania: 15 days between safaris and Maasai lands

This hike from Materuni to Kuringe Waterfall is ideal for those who want to experience Kilimanjaro without actually climbing it! From Materuni, a local guide will accompany you on a pleasant 40-minute walk to this impressive 70-meter-high waterfall. The trail offers stunning panoramic views and takes you through valleys to a rainforest at 2,500 meters above sea level. Along the way, you'll see coffee plantations, avocado orchards, and banana groves.

Today, you'll embark on your first safari in Arusha National Park! This park near Arusha is renowned for its abundance of tropical birds, the presence of black and white colobus monkeys, and a few rare albino baboons. With a bit of luck, you might spot the magnificent silver-cheeked hornbill, a stunning and rare bird, or perhaps even an albino. Within the national park, you'll find a lake, several craters, waterfalls, mountains, and beautiful plains—a superb place to begin a safari.

Tarangire National Park is known for its many elephants and enormous baobab trees. These centuries-old trees provide a water source for elephants during the dry season, as they pierce the bark to drink the water inside. Furthermore, the Tarangire River is the only water source for wildlife during the dry season, which explains why herds of up to 250 elephants and many other animals can be seen drinking there at this time of year!

Located between Tarangire National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara National Park stretches along the Great Rift Valley, a 400-meter-deep fault. This park offers a wide variety of landscapes that attract a rich and diverse wildlife. You can admire Lake Manyara, which covers 75% of the park, explore a lush rainforest inhabited by hundreds of monkeys and birds, and even observe elephants up close in the wooded areas.

Mto wa Mbu is a village near Lake Manyara National Park, a verdant oasis amidst the surrounding Maasai plains. Discover the culture of this charming village, its lush green landscapes, and banana plantations on a mountain bike tour. Afterwards, you'll visit another Maasai village, where locals will share insights into their way of life.

Lake Natron, located in northern Tanzania near the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, is a truly unique place. This alkaline lake, renowned for its striking red color, is a photographer's paradise. This is especially true from August to October, when thousands of flamingos blanket the lake, giving it a rosy hue. With the sweltering heat rising above the dry, dusty earth, the oily lake, and the surrounding volcanic mountains, a landscape of raw, surreal beauty awaits you—one you won't soon forget!

Serengeti National Park is known as THE place to go on safari, mainly because of the wildlife that roams there. The immense herds of animals are awe-inspiring, as is the sheer number of predators that call this place home, with over 4,000 lions, 225 cheetahs, a thousand leopards, 3,500 hyenas, and hundreds of African wild dogs! And of course, there are plenty of other beautiful animals to spot, which your guide will be delighted to show you. Are you ready?

The famous Ngorongoro Crater is one of the seven wonders of Africa. The crater was formed two million years ago by the eruption of a massive volcano. Its fertile lava created a unique ecosystem, which today is home to the highest concentration of animals in Africa! Once inside the crater, you'll be surrounded by thousands of animals, including lions, zebras, buffalo, and black rhinos. The views are breathtaking.

The Empakaai crater is located about 40 kilometers northeast of its famous neighbor, the Ngorongoro Crater, in a place that feels almost like the end of the world. From the crater rim, you descend to the bottom and reach the lake in 45 minutes. A pinkish hue awaits you there, thanks to the numerous flocks of flamingos that blanket the lake. The view from the crater rim is breathtaking, and on a clear day, you can even glimpse the majestic Ol Donyo Lengai volcano.

Visiting Lake Eyasi and discovering the Hadzabe tribe who live there is a fascinating excursion. Lake Eyasi is a shallow, seasonal salt lake located south of the Ngorongoro Highlands; a true paradise for birdwatchers. You can spot hippos in its shallow waters and use your binoculars to observe the African spoonbill, the greater flamingo, the grey-headed gull, the white pelican, or the pied avocet. You will then discover the Hadzabe, masters of the art of bow hunting.

This is your last day in Tanzania! Depending on your flight time, enjoy some final relaxation at the lodge before your transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your return flight.
